Anna Karen, remembered by a generation as Olive from On The Buses, died in a fire in her home last night.

Long enough attention span for a Stephen Bissette blu-ray extra (aldo), Wednesday, 23 February 2022 15:22 (two years ago) link

Aw, Olive. Married for 40+ years to Terry Duggan, co-star from that show, who also has a credit as "ape attacked by panther" in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 23 February 2022 15:36 (two years ago) link

RIP Anna Karen. I feel like a bit of a curse, I was making an Anna Kavan/Anna Karen 'joke' on Facebook just the other day ...

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 23 February 2022 15:41 (two years ago) link

I have a voulez-vous? with death (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 23 February 2022 19:22 (two years ago) link

oh damn! I remember seeing his first special on Comedy Central as a kid and I thought he was hilarious

frogbs, Wednesday, 23 February 2022 19:27 (two years ago) link

that untitled amazing johnathan documentary was excellent, surreal to think that he finally passed away

roflrofl fight (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 23 February 2022 19:30 (two years ago) link

RIP to The Amazing Johnathan. His 1996 Comedy Central special had it all. Jokes. Magic. Cartoonish gags. Sex. Drugs. And treating the audience like a bunch of rubes. The absolute height of the form. https://t.co/OKyskcKwUM

RIP Nicky Tesco. For the duration of the run from “The Sound of the Suburbs” to “Offshore Banking Business” (i.e. a few weeks in the spring of 1979) they were my favourite band, along with Chic and (the) Village People. In retrospect, it was all about that bass. When white punk boys went reggae and dub (post-“(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais”, but before the Specials and the Beat and the rest of the 2 Tone scene)

We're extremely sad to hear of the passing of Shirley Hughes. Having written and illustrated over 200 books, Shirley was a master of creating beautiful characters that stand the test of time. A world without Alfie or Dogger would be a world lacking.

Oh man, the hours I have spent reading her books to my kid. What a shame.

politics is about vibes and the vibes are off (stevie), Wednesday, 2 March 2022 13:50 (two years ago) link

I could see the cogs really turning in F’s brain the first time I read him Dogger. It was a world he completely recognised - school fair, ice-cream van - and also a story about kindness, responsibility and little sacrifices. RIP Shirley Hughes.
