Mel descriptions = good. Tempting me to download unreleased songs = bad. Julio = obviously pulling mel's internet pigtails because he is in lurve.

''Julio = obviously pulling mel's internet pigtails because he is in lurve.''

that would be 'indie' love then (lurve is too 'black' and therefore not allowed heh). Indie love= I slap her but I do not tell I'm in love with her (because i do not know how).

Does this mean I won't be able to set up that "Who's the biggest wanker on ILM?" thread I'd been planning? Curse these new rules!

Melissa, did u request candle in the wind?

As far as my friends and I can determine, this request came from a girl that we refer to as "asscrack girl". Her real name has yet to be determined.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Thursday, 22 August 2002 22:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

that is to say her face looks like an asscrack or...?

naked as sin, Thursday, 22 August 2002 23:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

No, her face was remarkably moose-like. But, every night, she wore ill-fitting jeans that exposed her to the world.

if you did such thing I might actually come out on top after yesterday. Though ppl don't like doomie I think.

i really don't appreciate the 'delete ILM' stuff

ron (ron), Saturday, 24 August 2002 02:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

Graham - ILM and ILX worked as well as they did because it was an open secret that we couldn't ban people, and so the community mostly moderated itself, i.e. everyone would call Julio (or whoever) an asshole and he would say sorry. By having 'cops' with actual power (rather than rarely deleting threads) that gets lost (i.e. people think why should I say anything, I'm not a moderator) AND it lets people play the big rebel man by going on about nanny states etc etc. (i.e. it gives them a censorship straw-man to argue about rather than making them defend themselves).

In other words what I'm asking is please don't threaten to delete anything, and please don't delete anything either unless it falls into the (pretty tight) guidelines you know about as a moderator. People should be civil on web boards because they want to be not because they're told to be.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 24 August 2002 08:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh yeah FWIW I agree that Julio was being an arsehole and that if Mel felt hurt by it it's his fault not hers. And FWIW I agree with Jody Beth about the songs - Radiohead are interesting cos of what they do to their songs, more than because of the songs themselves.

I actually sort of agree, though I do think that the songs themselves are good too.

Well, yes, it was an empty threat as I haven't programmed any mechanism for blocking people, and blocking by IP etc isn't very effective anyway as Julios' clash with a couple of prominent posters. I still hate this place.

well, the nanny state thing was a joke but it's what Graham's threat to ban me deserved (I did keep quiet for quite a while, its when ppl started commenting on the fact that he threatened to delete ILM that I thought i should say something).

I still made an attempt to defend myself.

''Oh yeah FWIW I agree that Julio was being an arsehole and that if Mel felt hurt by it it's his fault not hers.''

Whatever I say I have to take full responsibility for. I was an arsehole for the way I put things, I should have just made a couple of general comments and asked a question and left it at that. If i had to turn the clock back I would have still asked it.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 24 August 2002 11:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Fair enough! Which is exactly why you should leave the generally thankless work of moderating it to other people :)

How happy I would be if all these posts were actually about Radiohead (with positive and negative comments both).

What is Johnny's hair like now Mel? Sorry, this is the only Radiohead related question that springs to mind right now...

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 24 August 2002 13:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

In some ways it's hard for me to think of Radiohead as a band, it's almost more like they're a collection of individuals who make these weird combinations on stage then go home. Which is something I approve of! Less band ethos, more stilted interaction!

They really do cease to be "Radiohead" the moment they get offstage.

"Go To Sleep" actually sounds a bit like it could have been on Murray Street.

What do you mean by this? Are Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood playing against each other on guitars in alternate tunings? Whacking at their strings with screwdrivers? Or is it something in the singing? It sounds interesting.

sundar subramanian, Saturday, 24 August 2002 15:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

or is Jim sauter and dietrich providing squealing saxophones as they do on Murray street?

It just reminds me a bit of "Disconnection Notice". I mean, the similarity isn't overwhelming... I just could imagine "Go To Sleep" appearing on Murray Street and not being phased at all. (If you're curious, download it here)

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 24 August 2002 22:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm guessing you weren't curious. I'd be fascinated to hear your opinion, though.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 26 August 2002 05:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mel, many thanks for sticking your neck out and posting those song descriptions. Despite not entirely sharing your devotion to Radiohead I always read your views on electronica with interest and wish you'd post more. Even your views on Vespertine, which I violently disagreed with, fascinated me. Don't let other posters being rude and discourteous hold you back.

Melissa, I'm flattered by your interest in my opinion and it's nice of you to post a link. The only thing is that my computer is crap, I don't have a working sound card set up on it, and my connection is slow. I've been really busy packing too. I've made a note to give it a listen when it gets released though.

sundar subramanian, Monday, 26 August 2002 17:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

As it's actually one of the weaker songs, I'm not entirely sure it will get released. It may just exist in bootleg limbo forever.

(against my better judgement, i'd just like to point out that i've seen radiohead live on thirteen separate occasions. i am not baiting anyone here; just interested in the potential response)

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Thursday, 3 October 2002 16:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Negative? Where do I start? You could have me here all day. Negative things about music or the band themselves? I could go album by album, song by song... Not sure you really want to get me started.
