Juliana Hatfield has a high end First Act too. It sucks that the company collapsed, because they could've put some cool stuff in the mid-range market if they'd ever gotten their shit together.

xpost I had thought it would be cool to have a 12/6 string double neck and do a live loop pedal thing, layering 12 string stuff over the base of 6 string loops

one thing about them - all the single coil models have the funky tailpiece thing that i'm not such a huge fan of, but none of the ones with humbuckers have that. anyone know what's up there?

yeah that tailpiece is weird, it's not necessarily a bad idea but something about how it's shaped doesn't quite sit right

it's irritating when one design decision is tied to another like that for no clear reason--like i'm not sure i could be convinced that the tailpiece is somehow complementary to the p-90s.

an SG tremolo might work, i wonder if that's what they were going for?

The RS502 from the first gen had the P90s without the tailpiece, but I haven't seen a new RS502 for sale anywhere online in a couple years (and only a few used ones). I guess the RS502T was more popular (it's what I bought, and what most videos you see about them on youtube are featuring), so I guess they didn't bother making a P90s/no tailpiece variant for gen 2.

I've thought about redoing mine and taking off the tailpiece and putting in a stop bar, but I'd need to do pay someone to fill the holes and refinish it and I'm not sure it's worth it right now.

I have a Classic Vibe Thinline Tele that is totally fine. I reach for it as often as I reach for the Fender equivalent.

I’ve never tried an Indonesian Squier before but the reviews for these seem to be wall-to-wall raves, and it’s not like I am going to be buying a Sting signature model any time.

Well the one I was looking at was used on local classifieds, and I just picked it up, and oh my goddddddddd it is wonderful. Fretwork, neck profile, feel, finish, all just perfect for me. LOVE IT. Feels as good as most of the Fenders I have.

that SG bass up there is sick. i've been begging my dad to give me his ~'67 gibson SG bass for about 20 years now

I've got a classic vibe jazzmaster and it doesn't feel different at all quality-wise from the mexican fenders tokai strat copy I have.

I just changed the wiring around to the rothstein STB SUPER MOD layout - the rhythm circuit switch is now a series parallel one, it has two volume knobs and the rhythm circuit 'dials' are now bass and treble cut pots. It feels much more useful.

I'd also love to get a ridiculous 80s shredder superstrat. It's absolutely got to have the pointy headstock and shark fin inlays and would preferably be neon pink crackle or something equally over-the-top

Now that all the people who were exposed to hair metal are approaching their 50s and have nostalgic or ironic interest in them there seems to be a number of reissues of guitars that capture this vibe. Jackson has a reverse headstock, shark-fin inlay, floyd rose-equipped dinky model in garish neon pink available now. I put a used one on my reverb watchlist and the place actually made an offer at ME which I've never had happen before. I think I might go for it.

Spent half my Saturday installing a 1954-correct bridge on my Squier Classic Vibe 50s Precision. No doubt it will make zero difference to sound or function, but man I am pleased with it.

Anybody ever had a guitar partially refinished? Thinking about getting just the top of my Revstar painted (and maybe switch out the trapeze tailpiece for a regular stop tail). I've painted guitars myself before, but I don't want this one to look janky. What does something like this usually cost?

Many variables -
- strip or overpaint?
- metallic? burst?
- flat or arch top?
- masking needed?
- kind of paint?
Could range from $150 to $500 I would guess. You could buy a body in the colour you like and sell yours (then you know what you’re getting …)
