frogbs, Monday, 14 February 2022 02:06 (two years ago) link

there's a genre of super bowl that is more uptight and defense-oriented than everyone expects and this is definitely one of those

call all destroyer, Monday, 14 February 2022 02:42 (two years ago) link

wow this got shitty

The defensive holding penalty against Cincinnati never should have happened anyway because the officials didn’t call an obvious false start on the entire offensive line. pic.twitter.com/U1itLG7RPA

jon bois! xxp

symsymsym, Monday, 14 February 2022 03:13 (two years ago) link

Yeah, I don't know that much about football, but my watching companions were surprised at how few ref calls took place during most the game, until the end.

nbc, in their wisdom, is going to follow it up with monobob and the ice dance finals

call all destroyer, Monday, 14 February 2022 03:21 (two years ago) link

very strong playoffs this year overall

ciderpress, Monday, 14 February 2022 03:22 (two years ago) link

lol yeah this is weird to transition into the monobob

johnny crunch, Monday, 14 February 2022 03:29 (two years ago) link

i guess this is nbc just trying to improve the olympics ratings via inertia

call all destroyer, Monday, 14 February 2022 03:33 (two years ago) link

good game overall, a little disappointing given how insane some other playoff games were but we got a long game-winning drive and Burrow got his chance to win it in the end so I guess what else could you ask for. all 4 of those plays on Cinci's final series seemed bad, but at the end of the day it's Aaron Donald and Von Miller vs. one of the worst OLs in the league, what did you think was gonna happen.

amusingly this game served as a great example of why NFL officiating sucks, in ways that maybe can't be fixed. the missed facemask on Ramsey gifted the Bengals a touchdown but no official was in good position to see it so idk how you fix that. the unsportsmanlike conduct the Bengals got was dumb. like I get why the NFL doesn't like that sort of thing but whatever. who fucking wants those flags in the biggest game of the year. fine the dude and move on. then there was the last Rams drive, which drew flags on nearly every goal-to-go play, all of which looked like legit penalties but it just nerfs all the excitement. one thing I hate about the NFL is how something exciting will happen, then a few seconds later wait there's a flag, turns out that play didn't count because the official saw something that happens on pretty much every play, so really you can't celebrate until after the play happens and you see there's no flag. to have that happen 3 times on the most important drive of the Super Bowl is kind of shitty.

halftime show was good. I really liked the set. didn't really like any of the commercials. I really hated the one about the blind Olympian, my friends and I tried to wager what the fuck that commercial was gonna sell and it turned out to be for a car, the one thing a blind person can't use. Cool marketing. All the Crypto shit was dumb as hell. Are there really people left to swindle? The QR code thing seemed particularly dumb, did they really think even 0.1% of viewers were gonna scan that? I guess the Arnold Schwarzenegger as Zeus commercial was pretty entertaining. Fuck everything else. Double fuck Zach Braff.

frogbs, Monday, 14 February 2022 16:33 (two years ago) link

speaking of officiating Aaron Donald appeared to be clearly offside on the 4th-and-1 that ended the game, which might have been a big deal since JaMarr was wide open for an easy TD since Ramsey fell down

frogbs, Monday, 14 February 2022 17:04 (two years ago) link

a QR code superbowl commercial seems a bit dangerous, given that someone could conceivably change where it points. and you knew the source was misanthropic cryptobros before it was over.

it is fitting, though, that Coinbase is using technology widely used to order french fries as if it were refreshingly world-changing.

the aaron donald offside photo going around is from this 1st qtr play I think:

though that one still should have been called!

symsymsym, Monday, 14 February 2022 17:19 (two years ago) link

you are correct. apparently, they give a warning before calling it. it doesn't look as bad from the opposite sideline.

looks like a torn ACL for OBJ, what a bummer. glad he got a ring though

this is nice of them

in case you didn't know there's a video of her falling right in front of Stafford who just turns around and walks away. looks bad but in his defense he was likely very very drunk at that moment
