if anyone wants to do japan/david sylvian etc. they're free to, but it's one i'd consider running further in the future

Looks like it has indeed been a few years. Assuming the Poster Formerly Known As Gukbe doesn't emerge under an new alias I'd be happy to be provisionally penciled in to crunch the numbers on such a Merritt poll. I suspect there would be more enthusiasm for that than any of my existing suggestions in To Do list.

Is anyone thinking of running a poll? If not, I might open one up this week but won't If someone else has something else in mind.

I don't have one currently (work is heavy right now) but in the future I'd love to run a Country poll at some point (which I would definitely name Country-POLL-iton) if there was enough interest. Also if someone was willing to co-run it to help with the images as I have no idea how to do that sort of thing!

Would there be anywhere near enough enthusiasm for a Randy Newman poll? I'd volunteer to collate that too, if there was.

I would vote! I was thinking of starting a 12 Songs poll, because Newman has never had a poll for complete albums or any individual records... but that doesn't bode well for turnout for a career poll. I just had the ominous feeling that the next Randy Newman thread would be post-mortem.

I'll leave the Newman suggestion to simmer for now.

But enough empty talk from me: having found definite support for a Broadcast poll in another thread, I wouldn't mind actually getting that up and running after Daft Punk. So late April, or thereabouts? Possibly a modest affair with a small pool of enthusiasts.

tried that before but seems to be a bit too much of a learning curve for me (gimpin' ain't easy) - and don't know if my ancient laptop can handle it.

This is probably a horrifying suggestion to actual designers, but I always find powerpoint is very easy to use to create cover/image art. You can add pics, shapes, text, etc in all manner of colors and fonts. When done, just highlight the entire field of items, right click, and select save as picture.

That actually could be just what I need.
