can we do YMO next and just skip everything? wouldn't it be good if we all got YMO fever this summer? i say this though i will not be doing any work in running the poll, mind you

snarl self own (Karl Malone), Saturday, 12 February 2022 01:55 (two years ago) link

this is no order anymore, so yes we can if the poll runner wants to do it

Someone do Peter Gabriel

Whiney G. Weingarten, Saturday, 12 February 2022 02:28 (two years ago) link

moka & i have vague plans to finally run the 2010s poll sometime this year, that's the only poll i'm committing to for now

if anyone wants to do japan/david sylvian etc. they're free to, but it's one i'd consider running further in the future

ufo, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:05 (two years ago) link

The year-end stuff is over, right? Asking again about an all-time video poll. I'll get it going right away and finish within three weeks.

clemenza, Monday, 21 February 2022 03:04 (two years ago) link

i think at the moment if anyone wants to run a poll right now, they can

ufo, Monday, 21 February 2022 03:11 (two years ago) link

I'll start a thread, see if the interest is there. If there is, as I say, it'll be three weeks, four at the most, and then one of the others mentioned in the last few posts can jump in.

clemenza, Monday, 21 February 2022 03:17 (two years ago) link

Is Gukbe around and still keen on a Stephin Merritt poll? Other threads are reminding me that I'd quite like to see that one happen.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Monday, 21 February 2022 23:14 (two years ago) link

would also be very interested in that

ufo, Monday, 21 February 2022 23:20 (two years ago) link

aphex twin would rule

octobeard, Tuesday, 22 February 2022 08:12 (two years ago) link

Gukbe is no longer around

bad luck banging, or Lorna Doone (sic), Tuesday, 22 February 2022 19:34 (two years ago) link

Looks like it has indeed been a few years. Assuming the Poster Formerly Known As Gukbe doesn't emerge under an new alias I'd be happy to be provisionally penciled in to crunch the numbers on such a Merritt poll. I suspect there would be more enthusiasm for that than any of my existing suggestions in To Do list.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 23 February 2022 02:49 (two years ago) link

Do it Nag! I've been eagerly anticipating the Merritt poll for years and now seems like a good time for it, what with all the chatter in the Mag Fields thread :)

next?

Bee OK, Saturday, 19 March 2022 02:55 (two years ago) link

Is anyone thinking of running a poll? If not, I might open one up this week but won't If someone else has something else in mind.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 22 March 2022 05:20 (two years ago) link

I don't have one currently (work is heavy right now) but in the future I'd love to run a Country poll at some point (which I would definitely name Country-POLL-iton) if there was enough interest. Also if someone was willing to co-run it to help with the images as I have no idea how to do that sort of thing!

Will (kruezer2), Tuesday, 22 March 2022 21:08 (two years ago) link

Would there be anywhere near enough enthusiasm for a Randy Newman poll? I'd volunteer to collate that too, if there was.

("Was this prompted by the recent Bandsplain episode?" I hear you cry. Yes, I guess it was lol.)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Monday, 28 March 2022 00:46 (two years ago) link

I would vote! I was thinking of starting a 12 Songs poll, because Newman has never had a poll for complete albums or any individual records... but that doesn't bode well for turnout for a career poll. I just had the ominous feeling that the next Randy Newman thread would be post-mortem.

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 28 March 2022 14:17 (two years ago) link

I'll leave the Newman suggestion to simmer for now.

But enough empty talk from me: having found definite support for a Broadcast poll in another thread, I wouldn't mind actually getting that up and running after Daft Punk. So late April, or thereabouts? Possibly a modest affair with a small pool of enthusiasts.

As always, vigorously quash this suggestion if you've been waiting in the queue since 2010 or whatever lol.

I'm really in the mood for that Broadcast poll right now. Could even maybe help to run it.

Camaraderie at Arms Length, how are you with images? I've usually kept that aspect pretty rudimentary but feel like this instance deserves a little more care.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 29 March 2022 23:42 (two years ago) link

three weeks pass...

Would anyone be interested in a Jeff Tweedy poll? Wilco / Uncle Tupelo / Loose Fur / Golden Smog / Minus 5 / Tweedy / solo stuff? I have never run a poll but would be willing to try. There was a lot of revitalized interest in the Wilco threads lately...

Indexed, Friday, 22 April 2022 16:39 (two years ago) link

would love a wilco poll, i think there would be solid interest

ufo, Friday, 22 April 2022 16:42 (two years ago) link

I could probably get a ballot together for Wilco.

Les hommes de bonbons (cryptosicko), Friday, 22 April 2022 19:10 (two years ago) link

Would very much vote in a Tweedy poll.

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Friday, 22 April 2022 21:46 (two years ago) link

I'd be good for 10 songs.

clemenza, Saturday, 23 April 2022 00:52 (two years ago) link

^^Underrated Tweedy solo joint.

Precious, Grace, Hill & Beard LTD. (C. Grisso/McCain), Saturday, 23 April 2022 00:57 (two years ago) link

Would actively participate in a Wilco poll.

I wonder why we listen to POLLS when nobody gives a fuck...

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Saturday, 23 April 2022 07:50 (two years ago) link

His POLL in life was to be an echo.

Let's disco dance, Hammurabi! (Austin), Saturday, 23 April 2022 15:05 (two years ago) link

Meanwhile, post-Daft Punk, I'll cobble together a Broadcast thread by Sunday evening (GMT+10)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Saturday, 23 April 2022 23:00 (two years ago) link

OK, I will give a Tweedy/Wilco poll a go when the Broadcast one is complete, unless there's someone else who has been waiting.

Thinking three polls:
Side Projects Albums (all members?)
Wilco Albums
All Tracks (Tweedy as songwriter)

Thoughts?

Indexed, Sunday, 24 April 2022 14:45 (two years ago) link

Thoughts?

Mine:
Wilco Songs(as it will dominate anyways)
Other/Side Projects/Solo Songs
Albums

Bee OK, Sunday, 24 April 2022 21:39 (two years ago) link

Though "Side Projects Albums (all members?)" is an interesting concept too.

Bee OK, Sunday, 24 April 2022 21:44 (two years ago) link

Yeah, I just deleted a post campaigning for a non-Tweedy side project, but this isn't the place for that. Anyway, I'd have at least one thing to include, in that respect.

Let's disco dance, Hammurabi! (Austin), Sunday, 24 April 2022 22:57 (two years ago) link

there's some edge cases where it's a little hard draw the line, like loose fur's "laminated cat" started out as a wilco song and is still played live regularly by wilco in its loose fur form

ufo, Monday, 25 April 2022 00:38 (two years ago) link

Might want wait on Wilco...new double album dropping at the end of May: https://wilcostore.com/products/cruel-country-digital-download

Come On Let's POLL - ILM Artist Poll #114 - BROADCAST (Polling and Lobbying Thread)

It's customary to paste a link in a more timely fashion, but it seemed vaguely impolite to interrupt active Wilco discussion :)

People who have made poll images in the past, can you recommend any free/simple apps or websites that work on PC?

Portrait Of A Dissolvi Ng Drea M (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 9 May 2022 14:01 (one year ago) link

GIMP.

Star Trek: Strange New Wordles (Leee), Monday, 9 May 2022 17:03 (one year ago) link

tried that before but seems to be a bit too much of a learning curve for me (gimpin' ain't easy) - and don't know if my ancient laptop can handle it.

Portrait Of A Dissolvi Ng Drea M (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 9 May 2022 17:13 (one year ago) link

This is probably a horrifying suggestion to actual designers, but I always find powerpoint is very easy to use to create cover/image art. You can add pics, shapes, text, etc in all manner of colors and fonts. When done, just highlight the entire field of items, right click, and select save as picture.

Indexed, Monday, 9 May 2022 17:38 (one year ago) link

That actually could be just what I need.

who's next after broadcast

i would like to try to do the 2010s poll sometime in the next few months, at last, but i'll have to coordinate that with moka if they're still onboard, and with anyone else who wants to help

ufo, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 01:27 (one year ago) link
