last few minutes of hornets & cavs has been totally nuts and very fun

Nice comeback by the hornets right now

radicalized against refs

Clay, Saturday, 5 February 2022 02:23 (two years ago) link

2020 draft looks pretty spotty at best but the hayes pick was brutal.

i would love to do a retro on hayes as a prospect--the contingent of analysts that were weirdly high on him vs. the fact that he basically can't play

i think the bucks are an elite team until proven otherwise. if the east doesn’t have an elite team than the west doesn’t have an elite team cuz we just saw the bucks beat the west’s elite team 4-2 six months ago

i agree with you in general about the bucks probably being a better playoff team than their record would indicate, but I don’t think we should reduce our projections for the 2022 playoffs to an assessment made in a single series 10 months ago

just want to point out to all who might not be watching the sizers-mavs that apparently one of the hoops was a little tilted and there is currently a crew out there removing one of the hoops and replacing it with a backup

auld gang syne (k3vin k.), Saturday, 5 February 2022 03:45 (two years ago) link

Just watched the 4th of that cavs hornets game and that was truly insane

Spottie, Saturday, 5 February 2022 03:46 (two years ago) link

xp This is the second Sixers' game this year that has had a serious delay because of rim problems.

if Durant can drag this team to the Finals he's immediately a Top Ten player in my book

frogbs, Saturday, 5 February 2022 03:59 (two years ago) link

i presume you mean top ten all time

typically in NBA history it’s meaningful when you’re the defending champs and your roster is largely unchanged from the previous season. pretty large sample size of that being a strong indicator of contention. and anyway if the implication is that the west does have an elite team i don’t think it’s reductive to point out that a team in the east just beat them in a 7 game series six months ago & both teams are basically the same. doesn’t mean the suns aren’t elite or couldn’t beat them in a 7 game series the next time around, but i do think it matters if we’re sizing up the quality of contenders.

Harden moves around like a 40 year old pick up hooper

Harden effort thread because I watched the film back and, my god, it's pathetic.

the next time a doc rivers sixers team has any iota of a plan vs a zone defense will be the first

J0rdan S., Saturday, 5 February 2022 06:13 (two years ago) link

their entire offense in crunch time vs the zone was joel embiid acting like he’s steph curry, great stuff

J0rdan S., Saturday, 5 February 2022 06:18 (two years ago) link

I don't know why teams don't just play zone all the time against them - they're terrible against it.

removing bookmarks never felt so good (PBKR), Saturday, 5 February 2022 12:27 (two years ago) link

This year more than any year I can think of in recent memory, especially in the East, feels like a "regular season don't count" year. This is one long preseason for the playoffs and more contenders I can remember are all essentially hoping to turn it on in April/May. We'll see if it actually happens but I feel there's going to be a lot of surprises the first couple rounds

octobeard, Saturday, 5 February 2022 16:52 (two years ago) link

ABC surveyed tonight's schedule and unerringly selected the Lakers v Knicks as the premier matchup

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 5 February 2022 18:27 (two years ago) link

they may be the most evenly matched if that's what they were going for

ciderpress, Saturday, 5 February 2022 18:52 (two years ago) link

God, I mean it's all going to end in tears, but I want this Simmons-Harden trade to happen and then the Sixers to play the Nets in the playoffs so that Simmons has to play in Philly. This needs to happen - it's almost as good as a Championship.

full-strength Lakers getting manhandled at home by the 24-28 Knickerbockers I see

frogbs, Sunday, 6 February 2022 02:50 (two years ago) link

man Lakers really did come all the way back just to have Russ brick 2 free throws with a minute left to send it into OT

frogbs, Sunday, 6 February 2022 04:13 (two years ago) link

Russ thing is brutal. Got booed at home tonight then had a wide open three in crunch time and the crowd basically yelled at him to not shoot it. Then he gets benched for overtime.

He’s only 33 wow

It’s been fun to clown on him and all but I’m kinda starting to feel bad for him

frogbs, Sunday, 6 February 2022 17:30 (two years ago) link

33 is pretty old for a super athletic guy who cant shoot

lag∞n, Sunday, 6 February 2022 18:21 (two years ago) link

Westbrook's game was always built on going as hard to the rim as humanly possible and being 'unstoppable'. Now he's stoppable.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Sunday, 6 February 2022 18:56 (two years ago) link

as brutal as he can look his fg percentages are basically at his career averages. the fts are rough for a guy who used to regularly shoot 80%+

circles, Sunday, 6 February 2022 19:26 (two years ago) link

the fg percentages may be similar, but I bet his +/- has fallen hard

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Sunday, 6 February 2022 19:29 (two years ago) link

He just plays for a team that everyone watches now.

Spottie, Sunday, 6 February 2022 20:41 (two years ago) link

actually was going to mention the percentages being pretty equivalent to his career numbers too. the big difference is in his free throws which is an extension of not being the primary ball handler on a lebron team. he’s just not a guy who can play different roles well. one of the most overrated players ever. fun to watch tho

Spottie, Sunday, 6 February 2022 21:17 (two years ago) link

cavs going for it!

Cleveland is acquiring Caris LeVert in a trade, sources tell ESPN.

*The Cavs are sending a package to the Pacers that includes Ricky Rubio’s expiring contract, lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick and two second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) February 6, 2022

lag∞n, Sunday, 6 February 2022 21:31 (two years ago) link

i had sort of came down on the side of the cavs really shouldn't trade their first round pick bcuz they're not going to win anything this year & if the low first round pick they trade could've turned into a desmond bane or rudy gobert type player then they will have made a poor swap of resources. that said i don't hate this, it seems like a good fit for them given how bereft they are on the wing and the fact that he's under contract for a few more years

J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 February 2022 21:35 (two years ago) link

Full trade: Indiana sends Caris LeVert and a 2022 second-round pick via Miami to Cleveland for Ricky Rubio, lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick, 2022 second-round pick via Houston and a 2027 second-round pick via Utah, per sources.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) February 6, 2022

dang cavs just outright punting on the draft this year, that rockets second was really nice. i guess we’ll see how it goes, i’m still keeping koby altman in my “he may actually not know what he’s doing” zone tbh

J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 February 2022 21:39 (two years ago) link

it’s funny the cavs ended up with both allen and lavert now out of the harden/nets trade

J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 February 2022 21:40 (two years ago) link

Levert has been playing better and better this season

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 6 February 2022 21:43 (two years ago) link

i kinda like this for both teams, cavs have plenty of youth and need to upgrade to be more competitive in the eastern conf which is a weird thing to say but here we are. indiana is stockpiling for a rebuild so i'd expect sabonis or turner to be gone soon.

class project pat (m bison), Sunday, 6 February 2022 21:45 (two years ago) link

Cavs!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 6 February 2022 21:46 (two years ago) link

This season, Caris LeVert ranks in the top-10 in points per game on drives per https://t.co/79ljlErUJ2.

As a team, the Cavaliers rank 29th in scoring on drives, ahead of only the Nuggets.
