Ahaha as someone whose plans often fail under the pressure of reality, it does suck to have set something up perfectly and then have the players not play their parts. I'm trying to love people more than I love my little solutions but it's not easy.

yeah it wasn't for me. because my solution was always "fuck it, i'll do it".

When someone is ignoring you on email, never ever minimise your nudge with ‘just’ or ‘sorry’.

the thin blue lying (suzy), Wednesday, 2 February 2022 23:50 (two years ago) link

for real ^^

if someone is deeply ignoring me & its job-critical stuff i have cc’d a supervisor if i know who that is, incredible how quickly you get responses (though it is a last resort)

my job is administrative & it is amazing how many ppl ignore my messages just because my function is seen as less important or they dont normally deal w me & just blow me off . if i get a salesrep to escalate the issue to the ignorer they pop right up. drives me insane

Celebrities who are good at one thing and then get attention for something else they are not good at. Jeff Goldblum just posted this video of him playing and singing "jazz" and it absolutely SUCKS, like it is not even average/mediocre, and there are all these comments like "wow, amazing he is multitalented!"

doing one thing well is a lot rarer than you are allowing for

doing one thing well and another thing half well and also being funny and popular is not as easy a sell but is possibly a more accurate description of this annoyance

a super strong contact adhesive that is a liquid bu squeezes out of a tube.
Does that work for anybody. Just finding the amount that comes out not easily controlled and i has warning about how easy it i sto stick things together with accidentally, eyes, fingers etc. Just would have thought you would keep it in somewhat more stable, gell like form because of that. Or does that mean it would just bottleneck in the tube and get stuck there. I dunno. NOw hoping that thing i was trying to glue has actually had the glue applied evenly but can't see that happening. Which means that it probably won't be liquid tight. Oh well.

Also this, I always think I just suck at using them, but everything I've ever used gorilla glue type products for winds up a mess and then doesn't hold anyway.

People who attribute the pissiest of things, like finding a good car park space, to the efficacy of prayer

The fortune cookies at my local Chinese takeaway have become ads for bitcoin. This isn't my post, but it is the exact cookie I got the other day. https://www.reddit.com/r/Wellthatsucks/comments/r8uz0v/my_fortune_cookie_is_just_an_ad_for_bitcoin/

It's a betrayal of my natural desire for good fortune!

Not exactly the same thing, but my wife and I always thought it was funny that people seem to make such a big deal out of finding a "good parking spot," and we had a running joke about an imaginary blog called goodparking.blogspot.com where people submit photos of their "good parking spot" (part of the joke of course being that there is no way to tell from a photo that a parking spot is good)

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Sunday, 6 February 2022 22:13 (two years ago) link

possibly great way of ensuring you never get to use it again innit.
Would think one aspect of that would be not letting the cat out of the bag or you are creating competition.

JUst being put n mind of Abbie Hoffman releasing Steal This Book containing a stack of loopholes that people like Emmet Grogan had apparently bee using to get free stuff. Not sure if it did immediately close those loopholes cos I only got the book like 30 years after initial release but would be surprised if they did remain usable much after a widespread release like that came out

my favorite parking moment was sitting at a cafe in Paris and watching a tiny car attempt to parallel park in a too small space. Instead of giving up, it rolled back until it locked bumpers with the car behind it, pushed that car backwards until it had enough space to park. I wish people did more of that here.

ye love ppl that back out of car park spaces or what?

Ár an broc a mhic (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 01:08 (two years ago) link

that's what you are supposed to do. you wait until no one is coming, then you leave. if you back into the space people are forced to wait behind you. you have to drive backwards either way! backing in is not the right thing to do.

backing out is ime more disruptive. idk where ye can see so much better reversing out of a space but it's def not the easier or quicker way I see it done tbh

Here's the big subtle difference about backing into parking spaces:

• When you pull in frontwards and then back up to leave, the people waiting for you are happy to see you leave. Take all the time you want, buddy, because now I've got a space and my long hard journey is over.

• Whereas if I'm having to stop for a minute every. single. time someone ahead of me gets a space, I would never shop JC Penney's again.

pplains, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 14:54 (two years ago) link

Fwiw, I'm mostly most annoyed by it in small parking garages, esp ones that serve a typical 9-5 work force, where there isn't room to maneuver or any other aisles to use and you just have to sit and wait for Dipshit McMagaman to spend three minutes trying to squeeze his F150 into a tiny spot while reversing.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 15:45 (two years ago) link

the parking lot at the local grocery store always turns into an utter clusterfuck when this happens, and yes, more often than not it is an oversize truck that's attempting this maneuver.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 15:47 (two years ago) link

who are you people who don't just abandon your vehicle while it's in drive, tuck and roll, and just go about your business?

he's very big in the region of my butthole (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 15:57 (two years ago) link

pivoting, this one is a theatre "semantics" one but one that can apply to any assignment in which your availability needs to be known:

when you get asked for 'conflicts', when there isn't actually a schedule yet.

If there's no schedule, I quite literally can't give you a 'conflict'. if you're asking me to tell you dates/times I am for sure unavailable and when I am available, I'm giving you my 'availability', and then you're using it to build a schedule.

and tbh I get annoyed at this because if you say "we'll always rehearse Monday - Thursday", I don't have to tell you about every day/time I have anything going over 1-2 months, and I'll know what days I shouldn't make other plans. whereas if it's completely open, I'm more likely to just make plans whenever the fuck I feel like and then we wind up having lots of people missing everyday.

he's very big in the region of my butthole (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 17:08 (two years ago) link

bin day. everyone puts their binbags out the front for roadside collection. only the cable company gets there first and closes the road so the bin lorry can't get down it, meaning the garbage goes uncollected this week

still, the foxes will be happy.

The guy who owns the RV park we live in changed over the bigger dumpster to a smaller dumpster, probably to save money. Except that it's overflowing every week.
