Ed if you like that sort of restaurant, you'll find better food I imagine at Above in the Times Square Hilton

gabbneb, Friday, 27 June 2008 17:00 (fifteen years ago) link

and the brazilian place is churrascaria plataforma. there's also one in tribeca.

tehresa, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 02:33 (fifteen years ago) link

brunch/lunch at bouchon bakery - food (what they brought us, at least) very good, though i've had better salmon rillettes; service worse than mcdonald's

gabbneb, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 18:44 (fifteen years ago) link

the mango-basil ice at nyc icy is the greatest thing about summer in nyc.

mizzell, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 18:56 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't think i've mentioned this but if i have, here it is again: The Good Fork in Red Hook was a really special meal. and the garden is cute.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 18:57 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^love this restaurant^^^

G00blar, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 18:58 (fifteen years ago) link

also, i just went to Shun Lee Palace East, and it was the best chinese i've ever eaten, easily. don't ask me about the prices, i didn't have to worry about that.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 19:04 (fifteen years ago) link

if thats the best chinese you've ever eaten, you need to get out more. or just ask lauren p for recommendations. well, at least its better than mr chow.

phil-two, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:13 (fifteen years ago) link

haha ok

Surmounter, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:18 (fifteen years ago) link

also, who paid???????

phil-two, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

my friend's parents! it was her birthday party and they had it set up so we didn't order for ourselves, it was all prefixed and served in courses bla bla. really nice! martinis too!

Surmounter, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

oh, i thought like a sugar daddy thing. wanted to get in on the action too

phil-two, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

haaa, i wish :P

Surmounter, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

i want in on that action, too! lol

blue water was ehh. tuna in the carpaccio was overwhelmed by the avocado and wasabi drizzle not spicy enough. trout was a little more cooked than i like, and i would have used a more delicate tomato than wedges of heirloom. we shared lots of desserts - my favorite was the watermelon fizz because it was... fizzy.

tehresa, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:37 (fifteen years ago) link

also really, really shitty service. maybe bc it was 2pm during restaurant week. maybe because our server is just bad at life.

tehresa, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:38 (fifteen years ago) link

does anyone want to get dinner before the fake accents show in the LES? it has been forever since i've been down that way.

bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:07 (fifteen years ago) link

YES bc going home is pointless as i will be there for like 20 min and turn around and leave again.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:11 (fifteen years ago) link

any good ideas for restaurants near the cake shop?

bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:12 (fifteen years ago) link

excellent question! what kind of mood you in?

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link

anything! except, nothing too pricey. maybe something asian?

bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link

i could def enjoy some asian.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

There's a narrow little Thai place on...1st and 1st? It's next to that really obnoxious "Irish"y bar. I like it there.

Laurel, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

hmm.. i could also eat tacos.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:17 (fifteen years ago) link

aahhhh anything but san loco!

bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

eeesh! there is that place on rivington next to magician. but we can look for asian too if you're really feeling that.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

what kind of japanese are you looking for?
i really liked yakatori toto, for all kinds of grilled chicken parts. the best thing was actually the fresh tofu, made at your table. the same owners also have a soba restaurant i think.

ed: what kind of food (sushi? grill?) and price range?

nam son (vietnamese) on grand st isn't more than a 15 min walk from cake shop. very cheap and tasty, although i don't know if the pho is any good because pho is like, the one asian food i'm not obsessed with.

lauren, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm kind of over pho for the moment!

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:43 (fifteen years ago) link

i think 15 minutes is a little farther than i am thinking...i'm hoping for something in a 5 block radius. i am craving something noodley/doughy i think...not soup though, really.

pho is really a winter thing for me!

bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:44 (fifteen years ago) link

i've never had the pho there. for whatever reason, it doesn't interest me that much. i like the grilled pork chop/shredded pork/crab patty over rice, the caramel fish casserole, and the beef stew with baguette.

lauren, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:52 (fifteen years ago) link

kuma inn is dope, I've been there three times

gotta go early though, it's really small

what time are you guys going to dinner? I'm gonna grab a bite before cakeshop but I'm supposed to be there by 8

dmr, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:03 (fifteen years ago) link

kuma inn BYOB. i'll have to remember that.

pretty sure they're not byob. how old is that review

dmr, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:04 (fifteen years ago) link

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:06 (fifteen years ago) link
