Guess the City

The last picture gave me strong Lisbon vibes, more specifically it reminded me of Sete-Rios station, where we embarked on a train or metro every morning while staying in Lisbon in 2019 to venture into the city centre or away from it. Confirmed by the box junction thing: Wikipedia only mentions Malta, Cyprus and Portugal as Southern European countries where it’s in use. Streetview showed some very similar buildings along the railway to the ones in the second pic when exiting the station, so I decided to move down the line away from the centre, further into the suburbs. Hit the jackpot at the very next station. Locating pics 1 and 3 took a bit more time.

picture two looks to be taken from a freight train

and the yellow thing is vestuario usado = used clothes

StanM, Friday, 21 January 2022 13:36 (two years ago) link

Good work kousenband!

I didn't expect this one to be so tricky, at least after the second pic anyway. Good work on getting all shots, wanted to keep them as close together as possible while showing something different

And yes, the shot of outside the station is oddly reminiscent of an architects mock-up photo. The lighting, and maybe the way the people are placed

Don't think I'm sticking my neck out saying USA

Hotlanta

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Monday, 24 January 2022 15:34 (two years ago) link

no idea. three bridges near each other, midsize buildings, could be a suburb of 3/4 of the usa. shrug

StanM, Monday, 24 January 2022 15:39 (two years ago) link

I'm not sure "suburb" is how I'd describe that view

rob, Monday, 24 January 2022 15:45 (two years ago) link

Feel like the giveaways will be logo above 'moving supplies', side on logo on nearest building in centre of pic and xxxx brazxxxx

Kind of imagine Niagara Falls would look like that if there was no famous waterfall there, just a river

Got a guess a while back from combing thru a list of US truss bridges, started there. Found some in Memphis that felt similar but no dice, zoomed out and started looking thru a few southern cities. Got lucky with Shreveport!

oh, it was "L STER BRAZZEL'S USED CARS & TRUCKS"

BANG! done.

I thought of Memphis, but the river was too small to be the Mississippi. Tried Little Rock. It did look Southern to me.

Positive I've seen a Come Dine With Me from here years ago and it's on England's south coast.

Looks like UK, well England really, never seen those sort of sunken front gardens tho xp

The trash bin at 87 doesn't have the logo obscured, but I can't read the text. Maybe it's still recognizable to someone.

nickn, Monday, 31 January 2022 22:27 (two years ago) link

top left: airplane?

StanM, Monday, 31 January 2022 23:50 (two years ago) link

are TV aerials/antennas still a thing everywhere in the UK or does their presence mean we're in a remote cable-less location?

StanM, Monday, 31 January 2022 23:55 (two years ago) link

Think the bin logo is Thanet council. Have clicked around but not found anything like these houses yet.

kinder, Tuesday, 1 February 2022 00:38 (two years ago) link

nice one!

StanM, Tuesday, 1 February 2022 04:59 (two years ago) link

that's bloody cheeky to roll it back to 2015 in the street view

assert (matttkkkk), Tuesday, 1 February 2022 05:27 (two years ago) link

ah well done! how did you find the street?

kinder, Tuesday, 1 February 2022 08:09 (two years ago) link

Good job! I went through all the council logos of the UK (found a good Medium account that hosts them) but the crudeness of the lines threw me and I didn't make the match especially as the two separate swoops on the right look like one on the bin.

Long enough attention span for a Stephen Bissette blu-ray extra (aldo), Tuesday, 1 February 2022 11:27 (two years ago) link

personally I’m would have had no idea where to start until the council logo was spotted. And then I just trawled the aerial view of Margate until I found a cheaper area of town with terrace roofs. When I found it I was sure I was wrong because the plants were all overgrown, jeeze. But tomorrow saw it more clearly than I.

one month passes...

A welcome revive, thanks CB.

I haven't a clue so I'm going to guess Boulder, Colorado.

Nottingham?

Cool sky. At the moment my money's on South America or Asia - in other words, no idea either.

ledge, Friday, 11 March 2022 14:05 (two years ago) link

I was just thinking of this thread recently, specifically the time we had Dnipro as the city. Glad to see it revived.

Getting a Roanoke, Virginia vibe

tomorrow, Friday, 11 March 2022 19:06 (two years ago) link

that's a city of over 500k, maybe 1m people. roanoke seems to small.

i think it's the US though. looks like an engineered river on the left hand side.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Friday, 11 March 2022 19:35 (two years ago) link

xp
Does look like it, but this seems to be a much larger city than Roanoke.

nickn, Friday, 11 March 2022 19:42 (two years ago) link

Looks like a golf course on top of the hills in the foreground.

o. nate, Friday, 11 March 2022 19:49 (two years ago) link

My first thought was Brisbane.
