oddcouple - Reflections feat. Jamila Woods
Rebecca Ferguson and Nile Rodgers - No Words Needed

Bee OK, Thursday, 20 January 2022 04:26 (two years ago) link

Voted, albums only. Most of the music I listened to this year, even Bobbins-wise, was full records, didn't really pay attention to singles.

Legalize Suburban Benches (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 20 January 2022 18:35 (two years ago) link

Voted!

Been away from ILX/ILM for the last 12 months for personal reasons but I won't miss being part of the 77 rollouts.

Thank you to all who make the upcoming fun happen X

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Thursday, 20 January 2022 21:55 (two years ago) link

Tomorrow night hopefully, or I'm fucked. I read it as tomorrow night, anyway.

emil.y, Thursday, 20 January 2022 22:06 (two years ago) link

Annual bitch that having to select just 25 tracks is inhumane

groovypanda, Friday, 21 January 2022 09:09 (two years ago) link

Voted.

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Friday, 21 January 2022 09:23 (two years ago) link

Voted!

Massive thanks as always to our poll runners and can't wait for the rollouts

groovypanda, Friday, 21 January 2022 17:42 (two years ago) link

I've just done tracks this year, but considering I didn't vote at all last year, or the year before that, this is an advancement!

mike t-diva, Friday, 21 January 2022 18:56 (two years ago) link

around 15 hours left to vote!

Vangelis fleadh (seandalai), Friday, 21 January 2022 19:13 (two years ago) link

voted. jeez i was surprised by how much is on my list that didn't get nominated! if i voted tomorrow my ballot would be totally different i'm sure.

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Friday, 21 January 2022 21:08 (two years ago) link

Gah, voted. I'm sure I'll be wracked with regret very shortly.

emil.y, Friday, 21 January 2022 21:14 (two years ago) link

Voted!

Yeah quite a few albums and songs that are very much top of the year for me weren't nominated, but I guess I only have myself to blame for that.

e.g. for albums, Max In The World's 'Club Chrysalis', Ade's 'Midnight Pizza' Jucara Marcal's 'Delta Estacio Blues', Sam Goku's 'Floweryu Rave Tales', HVL's 'Vessel', Sleep D x Ad-Lib Collective's 'Flashed Glass', both Portcico Quartet albums...

Oh balls - is 5pm PST a hard cutoff for votes?

Agnes, Agatha, Germaine and Jack (Willl), Friday, 21 January 2022 21:57 (two years ago) link

Oh hang on that’s 1am on Saturday, don’t mind me

Agnes, Agatha, Germaine and Jack (Willl), Friday, 21 January 2022 21:59 (two years ago) link

I'm in shock that 'Puppy' by Doss wasn't nominated. How do we nominate 50% of all songs by an artist in a year, but not the one called 'Puppy'?

Frederik B, Friday, 21 January 2022 22:16 (two years ago) link

don't boo, nominate

roflrofl fight (voodoo chili), Friday, 21 January 2022 22:16 (two years ago) link

left it a bit late and i'm a bit tipsy but let's do this thing! *cracks knuckles*

o shit the sheriff (NickB), Friday, 21 January 2022 22:17 (two years ago) link

don't boo, nominate

― roflrofl fight (voodoo chili), 21. januar 2022 23:16 (two minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

Yeah, next year I'll make sure all Puppy-related tracks are nominated.

Anyways, voted! Thanks to the poll runners!

Frederik B, Friday, 21 January 2022 22:20 (two years ago) link

people should also try posting about music they love on the borad more :)

rob, Friday, 21 January 2022 22:34 (two years ago) link

i forgot to finish nominating so my tracks ballot is kinda arbitrary, but at least i might have more in common with the rollout

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Friday, 21 January 2022 22:39 (two years ago) link

sent over an album vote, won't have enough time for the tracks unfortunately x

nxd, Friday, 21 January 2022 22:52 (two years ago) link

The ones I would've nominated in retrospect are Leon Bridges's album and singles, and Callahan/Bonnie/Drag City's "The Wild Kindness."

deep luminous trombone (Eazy), Friday, 21 January 2022 22:59 (two years ago) link

voting now!

my tracks ballot has 8 playlist discoveries and several more the playlist pushed me back towards; it is the result of a painstaking and comprehensive process and it has left me feeling attuned to ilm's listening habits. my albums ballot has 0 playlist discoveries and was finalised well over a month ago. idk what lessons can be drawn from this

imago, Friday, 21 January 2022 23:00 (two years ago) link

Now that toddintheshadows has chosen it as his song of the year I feel sad that I couldn’t give a vote to “meet me at our spot” because it wasn’t nommed at all. It was one of the very few mindless pop songs I loved this year.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 21 January 2022 23:01 (two years ago) link

Voted! Four discovered on ILM playlists made it in, so well worth listening to at least half the play length of every track this year (93 other tracks were saved besides).

tangent x (tangenttangent), Friday, 21 January 2022 23:05 (two years ago) link

Ugh please DISREGARD FIRST BALLOT. Sending my ballot again due to a glaring albums omission.

tangent x (tangenttangent), Friday, 21 January 2022 23:20 (two years ago) link

^^this but a glaring singles omission

ignore the blue line (or something), Friday, 21 January 2022 23:23 (two years ago) link

Voted! Modest amount of submissions in both my ballots but hope to see them all do well.

Nevar, Friday, 21 January 2022 23:42 (two years ago) link

pretty sure i could do a fairly legit top 25 based solely on "A" artists. these nominations are a rich vein of music; managing about a 75% hit rate or higher.

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 22 January 2022 00:10 (two years ago) link

aegis philbin (crüt), Saturday, 22 January 2022 01:16 (two years ago) link

Voted! Leaving it until the last minute and doing it after lots of drinks possibly ill advised but probably a truer, more impulsive ranking.

xp oh lol you're right ufo, not sure how I missed that

rob, Monday, 24 January 2022 18:48 (two years ago) link

this year was about as strong as ever for me and much better than 2017 and 2014 which were the two noticeably weaker years in recent times for me

ufo, Monday, 24 January 2022 18:58 (two years ago) link

For me it was one of the strongest year ever, but I also got a job registering music for a radio station, so I've spent seven hours listening to new music three days a week. Still, for the first time in a while it felt to me like new stuff was happening all over the place, in drill, footwork, hyperpop, hardcore, jazz, etc. If someone had told me last winter that I would be disappointed by the new music from Lorde, Lana Del Ray, Billie Eilish and St Vincent, yeah, I would have thought it would be a weak year too. But then different stuff made up for it.

Frederik B, Monday, 24 January 2022 19:33 (two years ago) link

I feel like I'm living on a different planet than many of you. I thought it was a great year for music, just perhaps not for pop music. Jazz, experimental, fusion, ambient— so many great records from these genres.

we need outrage! we need dicks!! (the table is the table), Saturday, 29 January 2022 15:53 (two years ago) link

Tbh a little mystifying to me, but i also pay *no* attention to pop music, and don't care to.

we need outrage! we need dicks!! (the table is the table), Saturday, 29 January 2022 15:53 (two years ago) link

Yeah, I also had a great year.

The sensual shock (Sund4r), Saturday, 29 January 2022 16:12 (two years ago) link

I almost admire the self-confidence to assert an entire calendar year was "bad for music." Maybe I should toughen up, but I tend to think it's my own taste or mood or a failure to pay attention to the right corner of the world that's the cause. It's tempting to conclude things like "rap no good now" but if I think about it more, I usually switch to "I'm not in sync with contemporary rap"

rob, Saturday, 29 January 2022 16:22 (two years ago) link

To me, my ballot felt relatively weaker than prior years, but I also think that there was a ton of really good music this year, just not so much truly great. So my top 10 felt weak compared to prior year but I bet my 100th favorite song was better than my 100th favorite song of any other year.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Saturday, 29 January 2022 16:36 (two years ago) link

2019 and 2020 were hopeless for me, but I got back into things in the second half of 2021, and discovered loads of good stuff via the Hype thread and Tom Ewing's World Cup of 2021 polls. The areas of music which I Just Do Not Get have widened, but other areas have opened up, so it's all good.

mike t-diva, Saturday, 29 January 2022 17:05 (two years ago) link

for me it's 100% me being stuck in a rut, I'm sure there was awesome music but I didn't have the energy to seek it out

Vangelis fleadh (seandalai), Saturday, 29 January 2022 17:50 (two years ago) link

As a big "if you think there's no good music any more you're just not looking hard enough" person, I actually think the last couple of years are maybe the only time when one can validly complain about certain aspects of music being fallow. My ballots had almost no DIY guitar bands on, and this year I'm not sure if it's because I just wasn't in tune with the scene or if covid has made it too tough for that sort of band to get together and do stuff, and my (informed-by-experience) suspicion is that it's the latter.

emil.y, Saturday, 29 January 2022 17:58 (two years ago) link

And obviously certain scenes being fallow doesn't translate into a bad year *in general* for music, but it does mean that there's more of a chance of not being able to find exactly what you're looking for even if you are looking hard.

emil.y, Saturday, 29 January 2022 18:01 (two years ago) link

I think that makes sense, emil.y. The only guitar led band that I really loved this year was Ducks LTD.
