1) More emphasis back on the guitar, and 2) Zac should go as Animal as he wants with drum takes

sounds good to me

Yeah I love After Laughter but I'm ready for more Paramore ROCK.

please tell me this is when they make their Failure record

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Tuesday, 11 January 2022 22:50 (two years ago) link

So, about half a year ago, Hayley mentioned in an interview

“We’ve thought about [the next Paramore album]. Taylor’s mentioned things like: ‘Oh, God – I miss guitars. We’ve found ourselves listening to a lot of older music that we grew up being inspired by. T and I liked stuff that was a bit more ratty sounding: The Rapture, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. All three of us loved Queens Of The Stone Age’s ‘Songs For The Deaf.’”

But yes, I hope for more Failure influence as well.

1) More emphasis back on the guitar

Any word yet on who will be producing? I think the Justin Meldal-Johnsen partnership has been super beneficial and I'd hate for them to go back in the direction of the Rob Cavallo's of the world.

Good good. I'm all for more guitars in line with the s/t.

I went back to their "You Ain't Woman Enough" cover recently, which is a fun Hayley karaoke belter. Have they done any other covers?

The last two Paramore albums and the solo Williams joint are among my favorite produced albums of all time. They sound *great*, super cool.

I'm not going to that whole festival, but a double-headline Paramore/MCR tour would be pretty much the highlight of any year for me.

Love that "Everywhere" cover -- a perfect fit with the After Laughter vibe.

Agreed. Jon Caramanica once called the s/t "a mess", and I was personally offended.

pretty sure they would play "everywhere" right after "forgiveness" which is indeed perfect

i thought she wasn't doing "Misery Business" anymore but i guess she'll dust it off for the right person? (not judging her for this)

Murgatroid, Monday, 25 April 2022 15:04 (one year ago) link

Yeah, it's interesting because they officially retired it in 2018, haven't done anything as a band since then, and Hayley made a point about it in 2020 when Spotify included MizBiz on some women in rock playlist. So it must be a case of the right person asking her. And they did sound fucking good together!

There's also ALL. THE. ATTENTION. the song has received in the past few years, with Willow Smith, Olivia Rodrigo, and Machine Gun Kelly all giving nods to Old Paramore.

I think I will save my disappointment for if Paramore The Band plays it live again.

peace, man, Monday, 25 April 2022 17:54 (one year ago) link

is there a second Weird Al biopic Taylor is gunning for?

(if he grows it long enough)

peace, man, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 10:54 (one year ago) link

They didn't officially retire it. She said they won't play it for a while. That they needed a break from it. So in fact they suggested it will be played again. And it probably should. Yeah it's mean in a not very modern way but it's also written by a teenager and true to that perspective. A song that good won't stay down.

abcfsk, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 12:04 (one year ago) link

Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if they re-wrote the lyrics. During the Eilish performance and the After Laughter tours, Hayley would change it up by just covering her mouth for the word "whore", but left the rest of the lyrics intact. I think there's room for interpretations of a "misery business" that could be interesting, where they could hang different ideas on the basic framework.

peace, man, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 12:11 (one year ago) link

They could change it to "bore", or "chore"... alotta options.

In other news, despite it's modest chart performance, "Hard Times" has become quite the CVS Jam.

So, about half a year ago, Hayley mentioned in an interview

In her podcast today, Hayley mentioned that Bloc Party was in the mix of influences as well. I know Bloc Party at all, and I didn't pay enough attention to the songs of theirs that she played, so guess I'll have to go back and dig into that.

We started working on new material as a band over the last year and a half - you know, the three of us, Zac, Taylor and I - and I just want to say it, I don't even feel like it gives away very much...Bloc Party, from day one, was the number one reference because, it was like, there was such an urgency to their sound that was different from the fast punk or the pop punk or the loud wall-of-sound emo bands that were happening in the early 2000s.
