Wordle is a CIA op

i'm on day 8 of Wordle and haven't lost

i fully expect that i won't be playing this in 30 days but a lot of people will keep going and i can see why. i'm not really a "daily puzzle" kind of guy, although i did use to really enjoy doing crosswords with my ex when I first met them. i can see why people addicted, and wordle is nice because it only takes a couple minutes

The iOS app just started interrupting my music every time a video comes up in my feed, I don't know if they made a change or if I accidentally changed a setting. It seems that the location of the video autoplay setting has shifted quite frequently, so here's where I found it:

Settings and privacy > Accessibility, display and languages > Accessibility > Video autoplay

hitting the mute button in twitter videos has helped me with this, but I'm not on iOS

I started having this problem and googling led me to turn off Twitter’s microphone access in global settings (Privacy > Microphone) and that worked but then it started happening again so thanks for the autoplay setting tip - fingers crossed.

Would like to meet the genius that thought "most people on Twitter don't send tweets like this" would deter a single human soul from sending a single inflammatory tweet

twitter has started to pause my music whenever i scroll past a video. might be the thing that finally gets me to quit

you can probably prevent that by disabling media autoplay in the preferences - I think it might be under energy use or some such

yeah i disabled and then re-enabled and it seems to have solved that problem.

For when you want to reply directly to a Tweet's author, we're making it easier to DM them from your timeline to start a conversation.

Interesting! (haven’t watched it all yet). Jumped on it because I was thinking about Wordle and Information Theory just yesterday, remembering that Warren Weaver in his introductory essay to Claude Shannon’s The Mathematical Theory of Communication had said the following:

It is most interesting to note that the redundancy of English is just about 50 per cent, so that about half of the letters or words we choose in writing or speaking are under our free choice, and about half (although we are not ordinarily aware of it) are really controlled by the statistical structure of the language. getting it in six is victory from the jaws of defeat and should be celebrated. i remember getting four letters at guess three and still being on a cliff edge at six. when i got it i was like “yaaaaarghh fuck you wordle, fuck you, i’m still the best. still the best” and went and punched a wall or something.

One annoying thing they should fix is how when someone posts a thread, as you're scrolling down the TL, you'll first see the whole thread, then some ways further down, you'll see the same thread again but minus the last post, then if you keep scrolling you'll see the same thread yet again but minus the last 2 posts, and so forth and so on.

Why is it so incredibly hard to find old tweets? For fuck’s sake Twitter I just want to search amongst my followers list to find a tweet from a couple weeks ago that mentioned ILM 2021 Tracks Poll winners Wet Leg.

There is literally no way to do this. All the top minds are working on it but it's been proven impossible. Once that tweet drops off your screen it's gone forever.
(I think you can fiddle with the search settings - but it still never finds what I'm looking for)

I don't find this hard, except when it's something someone I follow has retweeted, and then it's pretty much impossible.

Love how it sticks a large blue distracting button at the top of the screen saying "View latest tweets" when I am already doing precisely that.
