Just had my first meeting in the Metaverse.

Here’s the top 16 reasons I’ll never take a meeting any other way:

that's an interesting article, thanks rob. God this FB shit is so weird. However I did really enjoy the cat breastfeeding video, that was worth 1000 counter spaghetti videos.

College acquaintance who now teaches at a very prestigious divinity school and was recently profiled in the NY Times bc of her corporate spirituality consultant job posted some kind of flickering neon aurora-ish gif on FB today. Someone in the comments asks "What's this? Maybe I can't get my audio to work." She replies "Haha there's no sound, it's just meant to evoke the inner life of spirit," with a smiley face emoji.

Obviously if this person were less successful in life this would only be mildly annoying; it's the fact that she gets paid the big bucks for this sort of thing that fills me with rage.

now that social media is filled with memes telling people that are worried about rising gas costs to be thankful they don't live in a war zone, I wonder if they actually have any low-income friends or family whom a massive gasoline hike actually could threaten their ability to make ends meet. or ever had a colleague call out of work because they had no money to fill up their vehicle to get to work that day. or have ever had the ability to hold two different thoughts in their head at the same time.

but hey, if it makes people feel better to ration out sympathy based on a tiered system.

(I'm definitely not talking about myself here, and obviously there's a wide gulf between David Allen Coe fans who drive SUVs with MAGA bumper stickers and make six figures whinging about gas prices and people who are actually struggling, but lefties' penchant for zero sum messaging never ceases to amaze)

i read to 69 position (Neanderthal), Thursday, 10 March 2022 20:40 (two years ago) link

wow you're getting that from lefties? feels like a classic conservative argument to me, "be thankful proles, things are much worse behind the Iron Curtain"

I made it about halfway through Atomic Habits earlier this year (at my therapist's suggestion) and it inspired me to make some small-but-important life changes that I have thus far been able to stick to.

There are obviously some egregious Jordan Peterson books in there and I'm unfamiliar with most of the rest.

peace, man, Monday, 11 April 2022 16:44 (two years ago) link

If anyone is still reading any of those books 5 years from now I will be astonished. But there will be a whole new batch of warmed-over pop psychology and simple-minded self-motivational books by then, so no one will miss these.

No disrespect to to man like Bernard but I'd be at least highly amused to see the bunch of (possibly) former glue sniffers, truants and expert flobbers I mostly haven't seen since I wwas 14 given a shot.

increasingly people are using Facebook stories. i get 5 seconds to read three sentences done as an image? what am i missing?

(videos are even worse because they don't auto-play and by the time I've clicked the button the 5 seconds is over)

(Facebook web mainly, via my phone)

koogs, Wednesday, 24 August 2022 20:12 (one year ago) link

FB stories are dumb and I only ever used them when I was banned because the system screwed up and still let me do them

idea to start a pro-boomer, anti-zoomer meme page on Facebook, spend a year filling it with this shit, then suddenly start posting memes about 60s/70s music/films being boring and shit, use pure rage generated as an alternative energy source
