A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 24 December 2021 22:12 (two years ago) link

I visited my parents in January of 2017, before we moved back to Philly, and my mom and I were driving through the city to visit my aunt. There was some horrible story about Trump on the radio, and I said, "I really wish someone would just assassinate this guy." we were at a stoplight, and my mom looked at me, then looked forward and said, "i do too, sweetie."

Poignant moments there.

My mom and I spent a fair amount of energy in early 2020 debating the likely outcome of the election — I argued that it would be the usual Republican soft coup through electoral college shenanigans etc, but my mom anticipated an actual violent insurrection. Turns out we were both right!

two weeks pass...

never wise to get overly excited about this stuff, but this thread and the accompanying motion to compel seems significant

We have uncovered significant evidence indicating that the Trump Organization used fraudulent and misleading asset valuations on multiple properties to obtain economic benefits, including loans, insurance coverage, and tax deductions for years.

Agreed, don't show your cards until you're ready to go all in.

I suspect that that nearly every developer plays that game to some degree and fraud is v hard to prove, so the evidence better be pretty obnoxious. On the plus side, Trump is known to be greedy and obnoxious.

And in other news:

NEW: Sidney Powell, a lawyer who pushed unfounded fraud conspiracies after the 2020 election on Trump’s behalf, says in a statement through her attorney she will appear before the 1/6 Committee & answer qs.

But her attorney says Powell still believes there was election fraud.

Of course one of the few of these big names who may in fact actually be mentally ill is the one to right away say "sure, I'll talk."

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 14:29 (two years ago) link

re NY AG: is she actually putting anything into those tweets that isn't addressed in exhaustive detail in the accompanying court filing?

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 14:33 (two years ago) link

agree with not showing cards, unfortunately stupid lefty voters harass these types of folks all the time when they don't by writing dumb shit like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHY IS THERE NO NEWS ON INVESTIGATIONS?", as if they think this shit is all instant.

doesn't mean the AG needs to pay them any mind though

Don't know why she went public with anything just now, but knowing (all too well) the infamously arrogant, capricious, stupid targets, I would not be shocked if this provokes even more crimes and/or evidence out of them. In fact, if they keep their mouths shut after this shot across the bow I'd read that as proof that she's got a good case and they know it.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 14:48 (two years ago) link

hi everyone, just want to point out she "went public" by filing a 160 page motion to compel Trump and family to be deposed. This was not a standalone twitter outburst. If you want a slightly more detailed version, go to the link below, but the filing itself is public, so this isn't some weird announcement just to appease angry people on twitter

For those who have given up hope that there will ever be any real consequences for those vermin, at least turning on the kitchen light and making them scurry around a bit (and have their assistants' assistants' interns stay up late shredding things) might be seen as slightly better than nothing? I don't know and won't pretend to know.

I fully expect it to be clear that they’re all guilty, but it will be election season so there’s some sort of justice Dept policy that the person is completely above the law until the great people of the USA vote for the criminal or not. They will.

I would imagine something like this has already been floated by McConnell, and Manchin and Sinema agree.

Donald Trump has only $93 million in cash left, according to Forbes. His properties are all indebted.

The Trumps could potentially owe $100 to $300 million or more in back taxes, restitution, and penalties — and that’s just in the NY AG civil case alone.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 27 January 2022 22:43 (two years ago) link

As much as I would love to see it, he'll never be completely broke. There are enough morons out there who adore the shit out of him that, even if he were reduced to utter penury, they'd throw money at him just to own the libs.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 27 January 2022 22:45 (two years ago) link

Not enough to make him "wealthy" again, but I fear he'll always grift enough to stay afloat and be a constant presence.

A debilitating stroke would end that.

And then someone could wheel him in front of a TV playing Obama's 2012 roast of him on an endless loop.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 27 January 2022 22:48 (two years ago) link

best way to give him a stroke is just one of us follow him around with an airhorn that we blow at erratic, inconsistent times each day
