Keita Bates-Diop is the first player in Spurs franchise history to drop 30+ points on 100% shooting.

30 PTS
7 REB
11-11 FG
3-3 3P

Only 4 other players have done it since 2000.

nuggets net rating with jokic on the floor = +10.0
nuggets net rating without jokic on the floor = -15.0

k3vin k., Monday, 27 December 2021 11:28 (two years ago) link

its crazy how good he is and how bad the rest of that team is right now, not fair 2 judge with their #2 and #3 best players out, but damn. he shd be mvp again but unless they have a better record ppl will sleep on him bc he won it last year.

class project pat (m bison), Monday, 27 December 2021 14:08 (two years ago) link

jokic having one of the best seasons ever, prob not one of the best thirds of seasons, but you know if he keeps it up

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 16:03 (two years ago) link

giannis is putting up 28-12-6 as no worse than the second best defensive player in the NBA on a team that also hasn’t been healthy all year and has a better record in the tougher conference…

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 16:12 (two years ago) link

i have no problem with any of jokic, curry, kd, or giannis winning tbh

class project pat (m bison), Monday, 27 December 2021 16:13 (two years ago) link

jokic has been definitively better IMHO and if he puts together an entire season like hes played so far he should absolutely win the MVP award but will prob not since he got it last year and there are other guys having great seasons too

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 16:17 (two years ago) link

the problem w/ the argument of “he won last year and now he’s even better” is that it ignores that last year every single one of his competitors for the award got hurt and missed significant time and so he kind of won by default. also that giannis was shadowbanned from the race.

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 16:18 (two years ago) link

jokic has been definitively better IMHO and if he puts together an entire season like hes played so far he should absolutely win the MVP award but will prob not since he got it last year and there are other guys having great seasons too

if giannis puts together a full season of what he has done so far this year i think he’s just a better player than jokic, straight up. personally

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 16:19 (two years ago) link

to be clear i think jokic should win it this year because hes been the best player

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 16:19 (two years ago) link

giannis might be a better player but jokic has played better

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 16:20 (two years ago) link

yeah see i think giannis is better and also has played better

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 16:25 (two years ago) link

statistically at least jokic is lapping the league, and is doing it with his two best teammates out, which i suspect giannis couldnt were you to trade him for jokic, however if you put joker on the bucks theyd score 200 points a game and still have excellent D, interestingly the team that would prob be better with giannis is the healthy nuggets

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 16:29 (two years ago) link

kinda funny that the bucks finally got over the top by giannis playing bigger now hes back to being an exclusively face up player again why is center giannis a break glass in case of emergency situation idk, celtics had him pretty bottled up before pooping out cause half their guys are in safety and protocol, and they didnt even have any players active who match up with him, marcus smart was guarding him half the time, so i think giannis still has the same questions about his game as always, unless you get him rolling to the basket then hes unstoppable lol

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 16:38 (two years ago) link

you could argue that jokic is statistically lapping the league *offensively* which btw i wouldn’t agree with but there’s the other side of the floor where giannis is on a completely different level, which is no shade at jokic who is def better on defense this year but giannis is capable of things on the defensive end that nobody else in the NBA can match & he does it every night. he has an ability to physically overwhelm games that puts him above everyone for me

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 16:46 (two years ago) link

we’ll see if a team gets the bucks in the playoffs this year bcuz giannis still isn’t a great shooter, completely possible. in the regular season it doesn’t really matter tho. he also might be shaq in an olympic athlete’s body who at the end of the day can’t be stopped, excited to find out

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 16:48 (two years ago) link

giannis is a truly game changing defender in a way you can prob only say about dray at this point, jokic has just been so good offensively tho, in fact hes been so good theres prob no chance he keeps it up all year which makes the convo at least re the mvp moot, but were he to keep it up all year i think he should be awarded for having one of the alltime great offensive seasons, because individual offense is better than individual defense

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 16:52 (two years ago) link

bucks defense hasnt actually been great this year fwiw, and theyre stacked with good to great defenders, so if were talking reg seas production not sure the defense can put giannis over the top rn

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 16:57 (two years ago) link

tho i suspect they will round into form before too long

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 16:58 (two years ago) link

anyway the mvp dumb but i do think joker deserves kudos and big ups for absolutely destroying the league under adverse circumstances

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 17:00 (two years ago) link

well he’ll be all nba first team center w/o a second of debate anywhere

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 17:02 (two years ago) link

really the only question about first team this year will be who is the other guard who makes it in. four spots are already completely locked up

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 17:04 (two years ago) link

luka trae booker... not sure who else, lot of season left tho

lag∞n, Monday, 27 December 2021 17:09 (two years ago) link

A lot of bucks players have been out too. Haven’t had their starting center or 2guard basically all season.

Spottie, Monday, 27 December 2021 17:30 (two years ago) link

derozan might be the leader at this point, even tho he’s clearly a SF in the bulls line up i think ppl could fudge it and call him a SG if they wanted. maybe lavine as well tho he’s not even been the best player on his team so that would be tough. strictly statistically speaking, harden has a real case. maybe donovan mitchell too. as natasha benningfield said, the rest is still unwritten

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 17:34 (two years ago) link

i was listening to the recent zach lowe pod w/ arnovitz and they were talking about how much of atlanta’s defensive problems are related to trae, it makes me feel like he can’t really be a first team player at this point tho if he puts up these offensive numbers all year he’ll make one of the three teams

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 17:37 (two years ago) link

Lol harden hell no

Spottie, Monday, 27 December 2021 17:41 (two years ago) link

Derozan and Lavine are both averaging 26/5/4 which is pretty wild. Derozan gets to the line a little more but Lavine is a 40% 3 point shooter

Spottie, Monday, 27 December 2021 17:47 (two years ago) link

harden's shooting numbers are down and he doesn't really pass the eye test based on what we imagine him to be but he's still putting up 21-8-10. and in december that's up to 23-8-11.

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 December 2021 17:48 (two years ago) link

He just hasn’t been an all nba first team player. The eye test is important. He could get there by the end of the year.

Spottie, Monday, 27 December 2021 17:56 (two years ago) link

the answer is booker imo

class project pat (m bison), Monday, 27 December 2021 18:20 (two years ago) link

you could argue that jokic is statistically lapping the league *offensively* which btw i wouldn’t agree with

what stats are u looking at?

k3vin k., Tuesday, 28 December 2021 00:14 (two years ago) link

i understand what the stats say. but PER and other efficiency and/or advanced numbers are not the omniscient narrators of basketball. i think you could very reasonably argue that giannis is the most dominant offensive player in the NBA. i think you could also argue that raw scoring & shooting is so much more important than any other facet of basketball that, actually, KD or steph are better offensive players than jokic. you could of course quite reasonably argue that jokic is the best offensive player. but to act like there’s no discussion to be had because of PER & other type stats — i don’t agree with that.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 28 December 2021 00:21 (two years ago) link

ok I mean I can see the argument that he’s not the best player or even having the best season I was just wondering what you meant by that because you specifically said “statistically”

k3vin k., Tuesday, 28 December 2021 00:31 (two years ago) link

well im pretty sure most/every advanced number type stat would more or less support ice cr?m’s assertion that jokic is lapping the NBA offensively so that’s what i was referring to. perhaps i’m wrong & there are some that have other players at the top i haven’t looked at them all

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 28 December 2021 00:35 (two years ago) link

Redidish had 33 on 8/13 from 3. I feel like he’s starting to establish himself

Heez, Tuesday, 28 December 2021 04:48 (two years ago) link

One final @ESPNStatsInfo stat: Boston went 4-for-39 on catch-and-shoot 3s in this game. Since Second Spectrum began tracking games in 2013-14, there have been 482 games – including this one – where a team shot at least 35 C&S 3s. Boston's shooting tonight ranked 482nd among them.
