Kyle O’Reilly pretty obviously coming in as well. I only know ReDragon through their NJPW junior stuff because I’d checked out of WWE completely before they landed in NXT but that still seems like a good move.


The dream now is for the pandemic to ease up enough for AEW and new Japan to start cross promoting, I think njpw desperately need it after a terrible few years and the AEW fans are gonna be rabid for the big NJPW stars if we can get to that point

Feel like they’re fast approaching the point where they could do with Rampage being slightly longer and taped on a different night /separate city with a livelier crowd.

That title match was fantastic. I could feel my heart in my chest in the last couple of minutes, there were so many ways they could have gone with it. Mad how after two years of spammed superkicks and overwrought community theatre drama it took a guy nominally trained by Shawn Michaels to come in and restore Bretism to its rightful, permanent place at the top of the wrestling industry

(I'm being flippant; Serena of course deserves her proper respect for this too)

I love how half of Dante's spectacular shit is just clever acrobatic dodges that aren't even going to kill him young. When he eventually debuts that second facial expression it's going to be like the second coming of Hook

Although none of them are individually 10/10 megastars all round, all of the former Undisputed Era guys have something to recommend them (godspeed Roddy) - KO'R was always my favourite of the group and I'd like to see him show up. He integrates his MMA stuff in a way that doesn't make him seem tediously ashamed of pro-wrestling, stooges like a champ and has a well calibrated sense of humour. Glad that I caught one of his excellent series with KUSHIDA in London a few years back

I’d love to see KUSHIDA in AEW too, of course, but perhaps he’s fine where he is. He’s got nothing left to prove, hopefully he’s getting paid a lot of money. He doesn’t have to travel much, so more time with his family. Maybe he’s got it made, as much as it pains us to see him slumming it professionally.

Yeah kushida seems to be in the same category as nakamura, he did his thing and now he’s getting paid lots of money to do very little and he won’t end up in a wheelchair or an early grave. As a fan I would selfishly love to see him have another proper run but good for him tbh

(they had a match in 2016 too, but 2015 is the really famous one iirc)

I meant the block match from 2016; when KUSHIDA caught him mid-air in the Hoverboard Lock I popped harder than I had in years. I know he’s done the same spot a few times since but it made the match for me.

i wish the dan lambert segments didn’t routinely decay into misogyny bc otherwise his bit is a pretty effective satire of the worst wrestling fans (imo)

Yeah, Lambert's "Jim Cornette (but not really)" thing is a bit of a high-wire act and there are definitely times that he strays too far onto the wrong side of the line as an offensive revolting old white dude. Nothing that would be out of place in WWE but that Attitude era shit jars pretty badly in AEW. Jericho also guilty of this at times (surprise surprise).

Thankfully it's not a place that any of the younger guys seem to feel the need to go to. There was that one Max Caster rap which landed horribly but it seems as though he was given a talking to and benched for a bit as a result.

The thing is with Lambert is that he is legitimately the best heel promo in the world and he gets crowd heat to match and I suspect they think that the ugliness and the average AEW crowd's reaction to it is a big part of that, so expect him to continue walking that line.

on that final point, should say that if that is the thinking then they're totally wrong, cause the other thing about Lambert is that he is a diehard wrestling fan who visibly loves every single moment he's out in front of a crowd and the fans can sense that. he'd be way over without the edgelord bullshit
