Well this'll keep ya going
https://lightintheattic.net/releases/8593-the-oz-tapes
Operating out of a small upstairs space just around the corner from the train station in the Kichijoji neighborhood of Tokyo, OZ was a scruffy, DIY affair that lasted not much more than a year. Between June 1972 to September 1973, the cafe and performance space became the nerve center for the city’s burgeoning underground and counterculture set.Hadaka No Rallizes, aka Les Rallizes Dénudés, the psychedelic noisemakers originally from Kyoto, was one of the marquee names at OZ. Led by the enigmatic Takashi Mizutani, the now-legendary band was one of the earliest bookings for the venue, and would ultimately close out OZ Last Days, a raucous five-day blowout to celebrate the short but wonderful world of OZ. To commemorate the occasion, recordings made at OZ were released as OZ DAYS LIVE, a private press 2LP set featuring Miyako Ochi, Acid Seven, Masato Minami, Taj Mahal Travellers, and four tracks by the Rallizes—which constituted just a fraction of what had been recorded at the time. For nearly 50 years, these songs remained the only official appearance of the Rallizes on vinyl LP—until now. With The OZ Tapes, we are finally able to hear the missing pieces. Stored on reels of Scotch analog recording tape, these recordings had laid dormant in storage for almost half a century. The previously unheard material reveals the Rallizes at some of their most unhinged and experimental, as well as moments of delicate tenderness—the two sides of Mizutani that would come to define his band’s legacy. Taken as a whole, The OZ Tapes help to demystify the band’s murky history, yet this vibrant and seemingly relatively innocent era only hints at the explosive, uncharted worlds into which Mizutani would lead the band.

BTW looks like there was a listening party-only release just now, as in a party for this release:
https://www.discogs.com/release/22958801-%E8%A3%B8%E3%81%AE%E3%83%A9%E3%83%AA%E3%83%BC%E3%82%BA-Les-Rallizes-D%C3%A9nud%C3%A9s

That was vague: a party for the OZ Tapes release, but now there's this something else out there:
A1 A Shadow On Our Joy = 僕らの喜びに影がさした (Ver.2) 6:44B1 Wilderness Of False Flowers = 造花の原野 (Ver.2) 18:30
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 April 2022 03:10 (one year ago) link
Only 100 copies pressed, sold exclusively at the "Fall and Rise of Les Rallizes Dénudés Vol.2" event.
And it was on Temporal Drift so it's legit, whatever it is.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 April 2022 03:12 (one year ago) link
I really do want to hear this alternate "Wilderness of False Flowers" because it's over twice as long as the version on the new album!
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 April 2022 03:16 (one year ago) link
both those tracks will be (are?) on the 3CD (2.2 and 2.3)

150 copies? Glad to see they are honoring the tradition of making LRD product impossible to procure

saw this posted elsewhere, from the Temporal Drift Facebook page:
"We can now officially share the news that Temporal Drift will be reissuing "67-'69 Studio Et Live," "MIZUTANI / Les Rallizes Dénudés," and "'77 Live" by Les Rallizes Dénudés. Our reissues will be available throughout the world, other than Japan and Asia.We can also share that there will be a new 12" single made up of bonus tracks from the CDs.More details soon..."

77 Live is a fucking amazing record; I have a really good bootleg version with the title in French, but I will absolutely buy this new version if they've done anything noticeable about cleaning it up. Maybe the others, too.

I feel like they would have said remaster or remix if they did a lot of work on them, reissue feels like... not? Not 100% sure though

I've emailed the label to ask. If I get an answer I'll post it.

OK, can an expert here tell me which one of these I should buy if I prefer dreamy, 3rd Velvets album Denudes to explosive 45 minutes of amp destruction Denudes?

lol not Live 77

I'd have to refresh my memory on the other two
― sleeve, Friday, 30 September 2022 20:10 (one year ago) link
Yeah, Live 77 is the tear-your-face-off one. Mizutani is actually mostly acoustic(!), so that's probably what you're looking for. And 67-69 live obviously is gonna be more Sixties-sounding, too.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Friday, 30 September 2022 20:11 (one year ago) link
Thanks! I have CD copies of Mars Studio, Heaver Than A Death In the Family, and Blind Baby, but I seem to recall an LP (boot obviously) that was super jangley and droney and I loved it, but no idea what it was called
― Paul Ponzi, Friday, 30 September 2022 20:19 (one year ago) link
How much overlap is there between 77 Live and Heavier Than A Death In the Family?
― lord of the rongs (anagram), Saturday, 1 October 2022 06:48 (one year ago) link
5 of the 6 Heavier tracks are on 77 Live, where they also sound better + 77 Live has The Last One and 記憶は遠い ("Memory is Distant")The only Heavier-exclusive track is "People Can Choose" (which is actually Field Of Artificial Flowers and a 1973 recording)
in short: 77 Live > Heavier

Goddammit.
Don’t throw those Les Rallizes Dénudés bootlegs away just yet! Original 1991 CD of “'77 Live”—an incredibly loud disc for its era—vs. the maximized/destroyed 2022 reissue: pic.twitter.com/qCarIw6vRW— Andy Zax (@andyzax) October 14, 2022

That sucks to see, but as someone who doesn’t have the 1991 CD, I’ll deal. It’s not like I turn to LRD for a fine sounding audiophile experience anyway….
― a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 14 October 2022 23:52 (one year ago) link
I thought the production trick with all that PSF/High Rise/Keiji Haino stuff that came up in the wake of Rallizes was to wallop everything into the red anyway, all the better to conceal the fact it was probably recorded on a malfunctioning reel-to-reel.
― pick the mouse that can reach all the cheese in the maze (Matt #2), Saturday, 15 October 2022 00:11 (one year ago) link
yeah but "into the red" is different in the analog realm vs the digital realm
― sleeve, Saturday, 15 October 2022 00:12 (one year ago) link
and too much ruins it either way

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/03/arts/music/les-rallizes-denudes.html
Acid Seven, a bandleader and prankster who was a regular at Oz, recalled Mizutani interrupting his stoic silence at jam sessions only to utter existentialist riddles. He described Mizutani once taking a drag from his ever-present cigarette and proclaiming, “The smoke coming out of my mouth is extinguishing my ego,” with no further explanation offered.
By being totally uncompromising about the band’s sound, Mizutani effectively exiled himself from the Japanese music industry. Shime Takahashi, who played drums with the Rallizes in the mid-70s, recalled the band once working in a professional studio, only to find that the engineer never pressed record because he thought it was still rehearsing. Mizutani had been playing with the Rallizes for more than 20 years before releasing its three albums in 1991 — two sets of early recordings, and another double-CD live set of the band at its noisiest.
In a series of interviews this summer, Kubota said he had been working for months to sort through Mizutani’s collection, including numerous studio and live recordings.
“Now I have received the material for four full concerts and started working on it,” Kubota said. “It will be monstrous.”

Has anyone seen any news on the reissues? Pitchfork said the CDs would issue on 25 November, but the official website doesn't seem to have that info (it doesn't seem to be a well organised site).
The graphs above are not encouraging...
