oh come on, friend. it's not that serious and i'm really happy you like sonic youth — honestly, that's great! i'm personally just a little tired of hearing about how innovative and different and omg MINDBLOWING they were when the records sound like none of those of things to me. but if it is to you, awesome!

yeah I was gonna add a caveat that there are obvs offensive opinions one could post, though even there, apart from arbitrary nonsense invented to prove the point (right-handed people can't sing, etc), how new would they be? "Geir-esque" suggests not very

Tbf, opinions don't have to be new to be controversial.

A thread where you can vent your unpopular opinions without necessarily getting into in-depth discussion with people who are highly invested in the opposite pov seems fine to me.

My point was only that non-new controversial opinions are boring (to me), not that newness is a required condition. fwiw I think imago's hyped albums you want to diss thread might serve more of a purpose than this broader thread. Anyway, I don't like the ILE versions of this thread either, so clearly it's something about me not nec the thread

all christmas music is inherently bad . . . not just subjectively either. it ruins societies and i'm sure if pure evil manifested itself into human form, that would be pure evil's musical preference.
