The Eris Drew is pretty fantastic, denser than an Octo Octa, lots of fun and cascading with organic and playful sounds (A Howling Wind - Show You Love), tributes to the 90s injected everywhere (Sensation, Ride Free), very consistent and yet bookended with clear highlights (first two and last two). I haven't found anything to say about the last two but I like them too.

DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Being Alone"

Despite representing herself solely through 8-bit images of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," London's DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ transcends gimmick in creating immersive, sample-laden house records that can make three hours feel like twenty minutes. On The Makin' Magick II Album, her songs flow into one another like a stream (or perhaps a lazy river) of consciousness — listening to just one track can be sacrilegious, but each song is like the sonic version of looking back to a treasured childhood memory. Throughout the record, indiscernible vocal samples build on top of each other (is that Celine Dion on "I'm Still High"?) cloaked in carefree nostalgia, and highlights like the 12-minute "Being Alone" feel as though your molly just hit in the garden of Eden. It's easy to lose yourself in DJ Sabrina; just relax and surrender to the evergreen magic.

Title track from Phil Evans' LP, S-Mile.

Drifted past me a bit on first listen, but really taken with its friendly demeanour on return - cheery vid too for the people who look at things

xp Listened to a lot of that DJ Sabrina album today. It's reminiscent of bits of the first Avalanches album, maybe. Not as adventurous and varied but just as intoxicating. Even the song titles seem familiar: "Airplane Song (Welcome Home)", "Paradise", "Love Is The Purest Thing There Is"...

Speaking of which, I'm really loving the new album by Sansibar which seems to travel across a whole range of styles from ambient techno to tear-out two-step but using a kind of nineties trance pallette. Whole album is worth a listen

I bought that Papolious Jones EP. Played it at my little pub gig and had two people come up and ask what it is. One of them bought it right there on the spot off Bandcamp. Spreading the word!

Resident Advisor's Tracks of the Year list always has a few hits. Love this one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=am3kfoaBL8c

tondiue's debut packed an album's worth of ideas into an EP of techno that explores the outer reaches of the genre, specifically slowed-down breakbeats and tunneling, Wata Igarashi-style arpeggio workouts. "Painted Creature" falls somewhere between these styles. What starts out as a loose hand percussion workout laced with clipped, unnerving vocal samples before the breakdown turns it into a tripped-out big room techno cut that could stand up with the best of 'em. It's just one of many highlights on a techno EP that sticks with us like few others have this year.—A.R.

I nominate that we do a “current bobbins” thread instead of a 2022 one. The yearly ones made a lot more sense when the threads were much longer and computers were much less prepared to handle “show all messages.” More to the point, there’s not much space to post stuff from slightly earlier: a track from 2019, say, wouldn’t go in the “bobbins of the past” thread,” nor would it make sense to revive the 2019 thread, so there’s kind of a blindspot.

as someone who is constantly “discovering” things that ppl were losing their heads about in 2018, I second this idea lol
