I've had a rough week but feeling better today. All the best to you Jim and Dan.

I wasn't boostered yet but being in Canada I didn't get my second vaccination until late July so I'm not even at 6 months yet. probably be able to get one next month. think actually having the thing and then getting a booster will mean I'll be antibodied up the ying yang.

booster booked for about 2.5 hours time but i woke up with an odd taste in my mouth and a face that was burning so i guess i'd better cancel that, along with any Christmas plans i had.
been feeling ropey for about a week, cold symptoms mainly, slight temperature, the odd ache but can't really ignore this and certainly don't want to be mixing with a room full of unboosted people.
did a lateral flow test yesterday and it was negative, but i don't really trust my method seeing as it was the first time. I'll do another in an hour or so but am already pretty decided to skip the booster appointment

> my weird symptom. tingling semi-numbness in my left index finger
had a bunch of this all last week, along with what looked and felt like an infection on right ring finger that made it hurt and hard to bend. figured that was the cause of my slight temperature, although i don't remember doing anything to cause it. and that's gone down over the last two days, is almost back to normal
― koogs, Wednesday, 15 December 2021 07:10 (two years ago) link
If you've got a temperature I'd do a PCR test. sorry. good luck !

6000 people in the queue, 45 minutes to my appointment
get to the front, now 35 minutes to my appointment
"If you need to cancel your appointment
If you need to rebook your appointment you will need to cancel your existing appointment first.
If you want to cancel your appointment you will have to come back tomorrow to cancel and rebook."
not sure how that'll work. i guess i'm a no show. (although i doubt they'll notice tbh, i wasn't the only person in that 15 minute timeslot)
this morning's lateral flow test also negative...

ugggh that sucks, Tracer. What are the mild symptoms?
― So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 15 December 2021 15:21 (two years ago) link
Aw, thanks Alfred, I'm back to normal other than lack of taste and smell, which are improving daily. I consider myself extremely fortunate that symptoms were relatively mild and short-lived, and that my wife and kid tested negative.
― Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 15 December 2021 15:24 (two years ago) link
good to hear Dan.my symptoms are apparently classic Omicron - indistinguishable from a cold. sniffles, congestion, headaches, sore throat.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/15/londoners-with-cold-symptoms-more-likely-to-have-covid-expert-omicron
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 15 December 2021 15:29 (two years ago) link
Thanks, Tracer. Glad to hear your symptoms appear mild as well, but man you've done everything right and still got it twice. I've had friends in the same predicament. Covid just sucks.

> 10 day isolation means you'll be free on christmas day?
yeah, this has been on my mind as well. especially living alone. i will run out of bread / milk a few days before the end of isolation and then when i can go out the shops'll be closed for another 2 days anyway! (maybe more given mon and tue are bank holidays).
i think the window for me getting negative pcr, being free(?), getting booster and making it home has already closed though. (vulnerable people at home, so i don't think unboosted is an option) ((not that he seems to care but...))
(thanks nick)

oh jeez, sorry to hear this tracer hand and koogs!
koogs, have you tried the weird hyper-fast grocery apps? they all seem to have intro promo codes so you could get essentials delivered by them (like Getir, Gorillas, and so on. I think there are at least 5 in London and all seem to constantly be running massive discounts that mean they aren't much more expensive than actual grocery stores. I don't like their business models for the long term, but this might be a time where they are useful)
― colette, Wednesday, 15 December 2021 19:56 (two years ago) link
oh, interesting, thanks colette. jiffy looks like it would do. semi-skimmed milk though, gak
i am hoping that i'll do the pcr tomorrow and it'll come back on friday and be negative (although it's not obvious from the website what to do in this case). and i'll worry about anything else when it happens.
laughably, i would be allowed out to post the pcr back to them using the post box that is outside the sainsburys i always use, but i couldn't *legally* go in.
― koogs, Wednesday, 15 December 2021 20:54 (two years ago) link
Shit, Tracer, that blows. I just had what I assume was the delta last month - after the single-shot J&J
Got boosted with Pfizer last week, but i guess that won't matter when omicron comes to town.. I normally have a fairly strong immune system but not sure that matters either
― Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 15 December 2021 20:59 (two years ago) link
But it will matter! If you get infected, you likely will avoid severe illness/hospitalization.

i think relying on royal mail for pcr delivery might be a flaw in the plan. (didn't arrive overnight. and if it's anything like my birthday cards i could be past my 10 days before it appears)

my pcr that i took this morning came back negative, despite my sharing an apartment with my covid-positive wife. we have been separating and masking in the apartment, which seemingly has worked so far. i did spend a lot of time unmasked with her on tuesday, the day she tested positive, so idk if i'm 100% out of the woods yet. i am thinking, however, that she might not be contagious anymore, in which case it might be safe to stop separating in the apartment, tho prob still not safe to interact with others? who knows! we have three (3) binax tests, which as we know are now as valuable as gold, and we're debating how to use them. should she take a test tomorrow to see if she's still infected? should we save them until after our next pcr test (scheduled for tuesday) to see when it would be safe to visit family?
for now tho, i'm just relieved i didn't catch it and hopeful that she is through with it.
― grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Friday, 17 December 2021 18:36 (two years ago) link
when do you think she caught it and when did she last have a positive test?
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Friday, 17 December 2021 18:47 (two years ago) link
she tested negative pcr on friday, went to dinner with a group of our friends (i was out of town), where she likely caught it. she tested positive with an at-home test on tuesday night, and then with a pcr taken wednesday afternoon.
― grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Friday, 17 December 2021 18:51 (two years ago) link
i would save two binax tests for right before the two of you see family.
she should be over it in the sense of non-infectious around this weekend. maybe she takes the other test on sunday if you want to satisfy curiousity? but if you're planning to run errands this weekend you should probably take it.

BTW when did the US get flowflex tests? I just noticed we had them
― hopefully this review helped someone (Neanderthal), Friday, 17 December 2021 19:04 (two years ago) link
xp we'll hopefully know for sure about whether she's fully recovered when we get our pcr tests on tuesday. i was thinking we'd have her take one this weekend and then save the other two for me over the next couple weeks if i'm still negative by tues.
one of the fun things about covid is how it makes regular life things like going to the grocery store and seeing family feel like answering an lsat question
― grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Friday, 17 December 2021 19:13 (two years ago) link
you don't know what happens between now and seeing your family, so i would definitely save one for you for immediately before family time. arguably not necessary to save one for her for then assuming she's all clear on tuesday.
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Friday, 17 December 2021 19:26 (two years ago) link
caek iβm not sure thatβs right about contagiousness only lasting a week? unless iβm misreading you.
― Tracer Hand, Friday, 17 December 2021 20:31 (two years ago) link
right. it often last longer, and official advice is to isolate for longer out of an abundance of caution, but if you want to know if you're no longer *highly* infectious without wasting rapid tests, a week is a reasonable amount of time to wait.
