I’m not happy this morning . I’ve never seen such unprofessional behavior exhibited by a player’s agent.I guess words and promises don’t matter.

What a fucking baby.

This guy makes Jeff Wilpon look smart.

apparently this is about matz? horrifying that a guy the mets traded away might use them as leverage in free agent negotiations

put that coffee down, steve

mookieproof, Wednesday, 24 November 2021 15:38 (two years ago) link

He's raging about all these external things and:

1. Sandy Alderson is still involved even though he hired three scumbags for managers/gms.
2. They still don't have a manager.
3. Farm system is still a disaster.

hocus pocus, alakazam (PBKR), Wednesday, 24 November 2021 15:49 (two years ago) link

He should probably be thankful Matz didn't give him a chance to outbid the Cards, that deal would've been even more lolmets embarrassing

, Wednesday, 24 November 2021 16:52 (two years ago) link

perhaps, even apart from being sandwiched between aldersons, the mets’ gm opening was so bad and hated because the billionaire owner is micromanaging back-end-of-rotation negotiations

one month passes...

Low threshold these days for what counts as news:

https://www.mlb.com/news/keith-hernandez-mets-jersey-retirement

With the new rule-of-Baines in place, I think it's almost a certainty that he'll eventually get into the HOF via one of the committees: 60.3 bWAR, his years as an announcer, famous Seinfeld episode (crucial to any serious HOF resume). I imagine his cocaine dalliance is long forgotten.

I never knew Dusty Baker was part of that whole episode.

Cool, the more the merrier! I will look at the schedule soon, offer some dates.

Yeah I might be down if the timing works out. I am due for another trip to NYC this summer.

I can understand the urge to cheer for this team. But this franchise has literally the worst luck.

I think for at least the 7th year in a row, Mets may have had the greatest potential for both incredible feats and incredible failure. There has been a lot of failure to say the least, and even the good years (‘15, ‘16, ‘19) have been filled with so many rip-your-hair-out-of-your-head moments. Former GM Brodie Van Wagenen literally started throwing chairs at one time.

Feel like we are about to find out if Nimmo is actually unvaccinated though

The beats: “Buck, what’s the status on Jake’s MRI?”

Buck: “Well, I think first you gotta ask the question: what exactly IS an MRI? Something to think about. Anyway, next question.” https://t.co/uagbr4YAnn

Appreciate a manager who has already dealt the NYC media nonsense before.

Michael F Gill, Monday, 25 April 2022 22:53 (one year ago) link

get ready for some jordan hicks. a guy who throws 100 mph sinkers, 91 mph sliders, doesn't strike out as many as you'd think, and is now trying to become a starting pitcher with only two pitches. note: he was a starter in the minors before getting promoted very quickly, and upon reaching the majors as a reliever he dropped from 4 pitches down to his current TWO (2). a "deep cut" storyline of the cardinals this year is whether he can bring back a 3rd pitch and get the game into the 5th or 6th inning (at some point this year - his goal for today should be a solid 4 innings), or if the ship has sailed

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 22:16 (one year ago) link

I feel I am already familiar with the Hicks saga due to you KM! I remember when he first came up. Turning him into a starter is an interesting angle, considering his past injury / closer issues. If Flaherty is still around, do you think they still try this out? LGM.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 23:16 (one year ago) link

If Flaherty is still healthy, this doesn't happen. It's interesting, though, what would have happened when the inevitable injuries occurred later in the season - if Flaherty goes down in mid-May, does Hicks suddenly get the 5th rotation spot after being in the late-bullpen the previous 2 months? i don't think so, but not sure. i'm glad he's getting the opportunity - both hicks and reyes were once thought of as starting pitchers before injuries and circumstances led them to the bullpen. they're both so injury prone, it's hard to imagine a long-term future for either one. but i'm loving this opportunity to see what hicks can do while his arms is still mythical

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 23:35 (one year ago) link

every time alex reyes comes back it's like obi wan kenobi's ghost version. it's like hey, i see you there for a minute, and i love you, but goodbye

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 23:37 (one year ago) link

it appears the 2022 hicks era is already over

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 00:36 (one year ago) link

saying that from a doomer perspective, but i'm just not accustomed to seeing hicks (or reyes) for more than a few weeks without total disaster

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 00:37 (one year ago) link

Yeah the phrase “season-ending injury” is always hovering around both of them.

Met batters have been averaging 1 HBP per game this month, and after each one Showalter’s glower power grows.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 30 April 2022 02:35 (one year ago) link

crazy to remember that strawb was on the 114-win “best ever” yankees in 1998. such a completely different era. i just looked it up and he hit 24 home runs that year. the next year, his last, he didn’t play much, but hit .327 with a 1.112 OPS.

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 30 April 2022 09:58 (one year ago) link

I think it was 30 For 30 that did an episode about him and Gooden that I thought was really good. Explored their personalities and upbringings - and exposed a lot of the faults in the way teams treated their players (mentally/socially) at the time.

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 30 April 2022 14:52 (one year ago) link

Noticed that Tylor Megill and Alek Manoah, both in their second year (Megill's a little older), have very similar old-school lines right now:

Megill - 4-0, 1.93, 28 IP, 18 H, 6 BB, 27 K
Manoah - 4-0, 1.44, 25 IP, 15 H, 7 BB, 25 K

also, enjoying alonso make good on his vows to hurt people, lol! he's earned the right to hurt cardinals though - he almost got hit in the head AGAIN today

Great call by Mets booth too. What a rocket.

Michael F Gill, Thursday, 19 May 2022 21:03 (one year ago) link

I love the Mets booth. Always the best part about playing them. Like how they focused on how Pallante closed his eyes on that one delivery, noting that they never seen that before.

Not only would the cardinals crew never notice that, but...I mean. When Escobar made that error that tied the game in the 9th, Jimmy Edmonds said “that’s a big play right there.”

Bruce Stingbean (Karl Malone), Thursday, 19 May 2022 21:10 (one year ago) link

I wish I were paraphrasing

Bruce Stingbean (Karl Malone), Thursday, 19 May 2022 21:10 (one year ago) link

Every win is important right now because the starting pitching is going through some things.

PBKR, Thursday, 19 May 2022 22:58 (one year ago) link

Brings back some serious deja vu from last season, although the clutch hitting has been way better this year.
