Only read C, and found it a grave disappointment after Remainder

My tourism is working out well: yet again, no prob voting for the only one I've read, which was, you guessed it,A Visit From The Goon Squad. Especially liked the last section, unlike those of so many other otherwise-enjoyable books (and other things). And (although this may have been a mental overstatement) remember thinking that each section was so set-piece sectional, that you could just snap it out and roll it overboard if you didn't like it--more like inter-related short stories than the usual novel, or so it seemed at the time.

Zero History's nothing ending is set about a mile and a half from here.
(Pattern Recognition is a favourite, this isn't particularly)

What a year!
Many things I have read, some things I own but haven’t read yet, so little I enjoyed

Zero History is on my bedside book shelf waiting to really be cracked - the 2-3 times I’ve tried to tuck in it just kinda repelled me. Not the right moods, maybe.

I think knew within like 10 pages that I’d never finish the Mitchell and would never need more than Cloud Atlas from him.

I’ll sit this one out

the mitchell, i didn't love it as much as i should've given the subject matter
and the only other other thing was the Banks which i need to reread.
oh, and death's end, which i read earlier this year and there was almost too much in its 500 pages that things didn't get fully explored before the next thing came along

Only read the Mitchell. One of those postmodern pastiche novels I would occasionally slog through but would never pick up now.

Oh, I did try Skippy Dies but didn't get very far.

Have only read the Banks and Goon Squad, and the first page of The Prague Cemetery in a bookshop, it didn't make me want to read the rest.

I haven't read The Finkler Question, and don't set much store by Goodreads ratings, but at 2.8 it is by some distance the lowest rated Booker Winner. (I have read his next book J and it was staggeringly bad.)

I started The Finkler Question and it was bad enough that I never finished it and had zero guilt.
― Jaq, Wednesday, 24 November 2021 14:57 (two years ago) link
All I've read was Goon Squad and that was bad.

I know I read Kraken but it left no impression. Super Sad True Love Story I recall enjoying so it gets my vote.

Do wonder if I ever read books from a current year or just not popular novels.Still don't seem to have read many or any of these recent years ones. Maybe I read music histories and biographies when they come out and fiction I tend to pick up in sales or charity shops.Think I have read other things by a few writers but not the books from.the year given. Of course you can never make a poll using all books from a given year even if you stick to fiction.

Actually have read the Prague Cemetery by Eco cos I think I've read all of his novels. That's the one about the protocols of the Elders of Zion isn't it. Looking into its actual history as fiction in a fictional way? & I think I read a library copy back around the time or closer to it. I think it takes a while for libraries to get copies of things.

Missed this one. Really liked HHhH and this would have been the highbrow choice, but I cannot lie, Freedom made me feel more and I would have voted for it. I, like others above, started The Finkler Question on the strength of the Booker and quickly abandoned it when I found it was lousy.
