I used to think this was mainly for the sake of appearance, but recently I cleaned mine after too long and it was like I'd had cataracts removed.

the anti-glare coated lens are so much harder to clean iirc. No matter how thoroughly you wipe them there are always smudges.

My eye doctor will give me a cloth and cleaning fluid that works real well, but about 6 months later I'll go re-up and buy one of the cleaning kits from CVS (because the eye doctor is located kinda far away) and it just feels like I'm pushing grease around to different areas on the lens.

I curse myself for not pouring all my disposable income towards laser surgery when I was a younger man. And contacts are just a pain in the ass

I have an ultrasonic cleaner I occasionally dump my glasses in. It cleans them but it doesn't keep them clean, so it's back to square one shunting that lil smudge around the lens

I got assessed for laser but both my prescription and pupil size both mean I’m not suitable, sad. Truly hate wearing glasses and lenses both.

The coating on my lenses has failed after two-ish years, so even clean mine are like looking through a misty haze. Not thrilled but also not insured at the moment. This thread did make me find some spray and clean them, at least.

I have a liquid lens cleaner solution from Boots taht I got in a deal 2 for one or something So I have a load of teh stuff. Then clean using a cloth handkerchief.

i'm on year number 2 or so of wearing glasses, maybe 3.

you know what gets them dirty every single day? my fucking eyelashes! took me forever to figure out what was causing it, but apparently my nasty little eyelashes are making my glasses filthy as well

Oh yeah, constantly just flicking grease around every time I blink.

My latest pair of glasses are a GREASE MAGNET or my face is just real greasy I dont know which but GAH they are NEVER CLEAN. And because they are MULTIFOCALs this just makes it worse.

You can get sterile eyelid and eyelash wipes that might help with this.

Wait are you people’s eyelashes really long or are you wearing your glasses right up against your face?

The couple times my eyelashes brushed against my glasses it freaked me out.

It's my stupid bushy eyebrows that's the prob for me

And there's that old favorite: Accidentally smacking yourself in the face and getting a smushed eyeprint on the lens.

I just started wearing glasses not too long ago. I got anti-glare lenses in an attempt to stave off having to stop driving at night for at least a few more years, and the coating is already worn off.

I didn't realise you could see an anti-glare coating. I have one apparently, but I'm not sure how I can tell or what difference it really makes.

this is one reason why I quit wearing glasses tbh.

a few times mine got so filthy they appeared on the cover of Nasty Detritus magazine

i also have long eyelashes. i try to keep them clean?! i'm realizing, i mean, i don't put extra time into taking care of my eyelashes in the shower. i just kind of hit them with the soap and face wash along with all the shampoo and conditioner flying around, hoping that they won't be so filthy

(which reminds me of an old friend who caught some shit because she said she never washed her feet, but would instead just let the water and soap falling down from the rest of the body do the work. i do believe in washing feet, giving them a little scrub)

Oh yeah, I rarely actively wash my feet.

wash between your toes folks it's disgusting in there, "ambient washing" does not do the trick

Weirdly my feet barely smell (I am not relying on my own nose for this). Maybe it help that my toes are quite gappy.
