Just came to post that!

Yes, sounds as expected.

Very much Arc-Lite Pt2, but I'm fine with that.

Vinyl comes to $78.24 with shipping so I think I'll pass on that.

one month passes...

So! Had a great interview with Mr. Hampson himself for Bandcamp today. The piece will serve as an overall introduction to his work across the decades but also got some great thoughts about the new album. Will run in a few weeks.

Looking forward to it!

New single sounds like Read & Burn-era Wire to me. (Warning: strobe light-y video.)

okay that's a good song! but tbh i'd rather have something else than the sound just wubbing about the stereo field in the spaces where there once would have been guitar solos or whatever

^^^ wish i hadn't missed that

listening to the new one, kind of reminds me of early Main but weirdly upbeat (so far)

Went to listen to the new album after midnight last night and it wasn't available. Some places say the "release" is set for 3/25. Guess the physical got pushed back so they delayed putting it up on streaming outlets until then?

Yeah something like that. My interview will yet be along, it's in the editorial pipeline.

!!

Excited to see that interview.

I'm seeing 3/25 as the release date most places, 4/22 according to Amazon.

The vocal on “Fermion” sounds like Ian Curtis, in a really good way.

Listening now and enjoying it. Pre-ordered the deluxe 2CD version; don't know how radical the bonus remix disc will be.

Okay! The interview is live!

Good read and apparently I've missed a good amount of his more recent stuff, must rectify.

Yeah I had no idea about any of his non-Loop stuff, that all looks really fascinating

There have apparently been major problems with the pressings of the coloured vinyl versions of the new release. to the extent that it appears the purple vinyl has been withdrawn.

Stevolende, Monday, 21 March 2022 16:32 (two years ago) link

xpost -- Thanks indeed. The goal of the piece was to very much place his wider work in context, he's absolutely been very busy with all kinds of work all this time. And much as I enjoyed finally seeing Loop a few years back, a US solo tour would be even more fascinating, if utterly unlikely.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 21 March 2022 16:39 (two years ago) link

It would be great if he and Beggars Banquet could be friends again; the primary Main catalog needs to be back in print.

Streamed the album a few times, it is quite good. It touches a lot of the same receptors that Chrome hit for me, and that is never a bad thing when I am concerned.

I am a little bummed that physical product won't be available until 4/22. Even the CD has evidently been delayed. But it's already in the queue for me to order.

I ordered mine directly from the band's webstore and got it three days before street date. It seems like they've still got copies of the deluxe version with the bonus remix EP, too.

I received my CD on Friday.

All I know is Amazon says they ain't getting it until 4/22 and the Record Store Day website for retailers says the same thing.

I assume you guys are not in the US and/or you bought it from outside America? Because I'll deal with the wait if it will save me from spending $25-30 for a single CD.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Tuesday, 29 March 2022 04:35 (two years ago) link

I’m in NJ. It was $37 for the double CD and shipping but that was the only way to get the bonus disc so I did it.

but also fuck you (unperson), Tuesday, 29 March 2022 10:27 (two years ago) link

Yeah, with shipping from the UK. I don't need the limited version I don't think.
It looks like the label's US store has the regular CD but charges $8.20 to ship!

Everyone else domestically says I gotta wait. And I waited this long for a new Loop album, what's another month?

I pre-ordered my CD from Cooking Vinyl about two weeks ago, because it was a lot cheaper shipping than from the band's official site. It has not yet been shipped though.

three weeks pass...

I saw a copy in a local store a week ago and would have grabbed it if I hadn't already pre-ordered it from Cooking Vinyl, but now it's release day and it still hasn't even been shipped. Shoulda just ordered from the big bad A on this one.

This is pretty good indeed! I wasn't sure what this would bring and kept my expectations low, but this is a really nice continuation of their catalog.

Sadly I think ordering from Cooking Vinyl was a huge mistake, my CD copy still hasn't even shipped, so streaming it in the meantime and considering sourcing a cheaper copy elsewhere. Not sure if this is a standard experience from them or what, but lesson learned.

'A Guilded Eternity' sounded pretty ace to me today giving it a listen for the first time in years. I got to give 'Fade Out' a listen next.

Got to figure Loop might have missed a bit not hanging around another year or two when the Alt-Rock circus broke big worldwide. Main was cool, but it was more of an ambient group.

Those two Loop records I got warm thoughts about as they are in a list of a bunch I found all at once in one semester of doing radio in college. I had a crap early a$$ morning slot, but dug it quite a bit except that one day I came in and both turn tables, the CD player and the tape player had been stolen. Jason Gross of Perfect Sound Forever had the next slot that first semester.
