I just cannot fathom driving five hours to stand in the rain all day just to feel a sense of superiority over someone else.

Most likely it has become the sole source of excitement and camaraderie in their lives in much the same way that "superfans" of celebrities and sports teams find in their ceremonies of adoration, which helps them to tolerate their otherwise drab lives.

Sure, I guess, but usually these gatherings are around performances or games or something.

This is just like a bunch of dudes strapping on their Red Sox gear, driving to Maine, standing out in the pouring rain for seven hours before going back home. "Why? Because, FUCK the Yankees".

On that level, I'd chalk it up to that continuing thing where I will never understand a sizeable number of my fellow humans.

The desire to make and inhabit (often irrationally constructed - ie sports fandoms where the rival teams fans are an enemy to actually be fought) communities (and exclude the other) is pretty ingrained in the human psyche at this point.

A big part of Q lore is the fantasy of seeing Democratic Party leaders executed during “the Storm.” So it’s more like squid game than red sox/yankees—baseball rivalries are a pro-social sublimation of tribal bloodlust and this is the real thing.

And though we're now pretty far into the 21st century, there does seem to be some elements of millennial thinking, or 'end times' fantasy.. the wicked shall be punished (tom hanks), and the righteous shall take the throne (trump, I guess).

I remember watching shows about Nostradamus or Edgar Cayce as a kid, and there was always someone willing to 'interpret' their vague revelations to support the current news of the day... Q hasn't posted anything for almost a year, so the faithful are forced to either A) continually reinterpret his existing missives to fit unfolding events, or B) invent some new crazy shit

the whole QAnon thing is just a way for people who have been cast out by their family and friends for their insane and reactionary views to have something to belong to. it doesn't matter if any of it is true or if they even really believe
