I know it’s being presented as some “you can be or do anything” with unlimited possibilities type of environment, but having avatars not tethered to reality, in any professional or public setting whatsoever seems like an incredibly fraught proposition. I mean, there will have to be rules. And then more rules when those first rules aren’t comprehensive. Protocols. And then of course there probably will be something like in game purchases. So fun.

It may create some new efficiencies for interacting, but I find it hard to believe one bit of any pitch that promises we will somehow have a better time than we do irl.

They also had this VR thing called Battletech, which was a mech war. I had a friend of a friend get locked out by a hackers and get back in, I'll ask what they did

In the last few days I've noticed my feed seems to be almost entirely suggested posts with the odd meme from groups I follow. Hardly any content from my friends. Not sure exactly when this encroachment truly started but it's lousy

You can curate this somewhat with the show more / show less buttons. Whenever I see a post from a friend I tell it to show me more like this. Whenever I see a suggested post I tell it to show me less like this. It seems to be working, at least for me.

If you view FB in a browser rather then app you can install Facebook Purity which gets rid of all that shit.

lol Purity has been amazing. sadly I tend to use it more on my phone these days but it gets all the keywords you wanna avoid out, plus that stuff too
