Nooooooo way

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Sunday, 31 October 2021 03:08 (two years ago) link

This was their SOP in so many of their wins. Patience, patience, patience, good relief pitching, catch up and win late.

Profiles in Liquid Courage (WmC), Sunday, 31 October 2021 03:10 (two years ago) link

holy shit thought for sure Altuve was gonna tie it there

frogbs, Sunday, 31 October 2021 03:27 (two years ago) link

jorge soler is a large man

mookieproof, Sunday, 31 October 2021 03:27 (two years ago) link

Great catch--good enough for the old Altuve smile.

dusty shd drop bregman in the lineup

johnny crunch, Sunday, 31 October 2021 03:55 (two years ago) link

Houston blew it tonight, they had so many changes to cash in but they didn't

Bee OK, Sunday, 31 October 2021 04:01 (two years ago) link

If I had bet $100 on the Braves to win the WS in the second week of August, how much money would I be poised to make now?

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 31 October 2021 04:04 (two years ago) link

lol i was amazed they didn’t start salary dumping the second Acuna hit the DL. They were hot garbage for so long.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Sunday, 31 October 2021 04:07 (two years ago) link

NoTime: Braves were 18-1 on August 17.

clemenza, Sunday, 31 October 2021 04:14 (two years ago) link

18-1 odds seemed about right once they moved into first place. I was thinking that the odds would be 50-1 when they were a sub-.500 team not long before that, but on second thought that is too high considering they were never more than a few games out of first in a weak division.

On that same date (August 17), the Cards and Mariners were both 100-1.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 31 October 2021 10:12 (two years ago) link

Barves were always the only team in the division this year with a + run differential, just a question of whether they'd start converting that to wins.

Already not looking good for Houston!

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 1 November 2021 00:37 (two years ago) link

If Atlanta holds this lead, and not much else happens tonight, imagine this will go down as one of the more forgettable World Series (unless you're a Braves fan, obviously).

clemenza, Monday, 1 November 2021 00:39 (two years ago) link

Game 3 and 4 were really fun! It does seems like injuries have been the main story nonetheless.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 1 November 2021 00:41 (two years ago) link

I miss Acuna so much.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 1 November 2021 00:44 (two years ago) link

Individual games tend to get lost to history if it's a short series.

clemenza, Monday, 1 November 2021 00:44 (two years ago) link

Panda Sandoval to get his fourth ring?!

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 1 November 2021 00:51 (two years ago) link

There have been just two "Before and After" batter vs pitcher matchups in World Series history (where one player's first name is the other's last name).

They have both come in the last two days:

Chris Martin vs Martin Maldonado, yesterday
Kyle Tucker vs Tucker Davidson, today

Letting the pitcher hit seems like a bad choice

frogbs, Monday, 1 November 2021 00:57 (two years ago) link

That lead did not last nearly as long as I would have expected!

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 1 November 2021 01:27 (two years ago) link

Which one?

clemenza, Monday, 1 November 2021 01:29 (two years ago) link

The grand slam one

getting the feeling that much else will happen tonight

frogbs, Monday, 1 November 2021 01:39 (two years ago) link

Yeah, I may have jumped the gun there. I just go back and forth--every time I want to root for Freeman and the Braves, that goddamn chant starts.

clemenza, Monday, 1 November 2021 01:50 (two years ago) link

Grenkie!

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 1 November 2021 01:51 (two years ago) link

I root for Zack who just got a pinch hit single. I at least want him to score

frogbs, Monday, 1 November 2021 01:52 (two years ago) link

In case you were wondering: if you Google Ian Anderson, pitcher comes up before flautist.

clemenza, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:03 (two years ago) link

I actually was kinda wondering how often Jethro Tull has been brought up on air

frogbs, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:13 (two years ago) link

Looks like we have a game after all

Bee OK, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:26 (two years ago) link

always happy to see an intentional walk backfire

frogbs, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:26 (two years ago) link

Take a swing

Bee OK, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:30 (two years ago) link

I stepped out when the IBB was issued - was there a reasoning for that? Like was the batter really good against Minter?

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:36 (two years ago) link

Man on second and third, first base was open

Bee OK, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:38 (two years ago) link

They probably liked the match up better

Bee OK, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:39 (two years ago) link

I came down with a huge snotty cold yesterday and this is the first time I wish I had a TV in my bedroom. This thing looks like it has 2 more hours to go.

Profiles in Liquid Courage (WmC), Monday, 1 November 2021 02:42 (two years ago) link

IBB to load the bases with a 1 run lead always seems pretty dumb unless you're specifically trying to get to the pitcher

frogbs, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:47 (two years ago) link

xxp

Yeah, I get that, but there were 2 outs - it’s not like you’re trying to induce a double play or something. The put was at the plate.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:48 (two years ago) link

*out

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Monday, 1 November 2021 02:49 (two years ago) link

I guess that is why you IBB that guy last time up

Bee OK, Monday, 1 November 2021 03:13 (two years ago) link

Could have gone either way

Bee OK, Monday, 1 November 2021 03:35 (two years ago) link

I like to bet sports myself but these sponsored pop-up ads during the broadcast are pretty gross

frogbs, Monday, 1 November 2021 03:54 (two years ago) link

Astros had to win this game, then they're got grand slam in the first inning

Bee OK, Monday, 1 November 2021 03:58 (two years ago) link

Agreed, the whole gambling aspect to sports Is gross

Bee OK, Monday, 1 November 2021 03:59 (two years ago) link

Good

Bee OK, Monday, 1 November 2021 04:17 (two years ago) link

In case you were wondering: if you Google Ian Anderson, pitcher comes up before flautist.

if you can make a legit (non incredibly cringy) jethro tull reference i will bow down before you, because i once gave this a lot of thought

mookieproof, Monday, 1 November 2021 04:48 (two years ago) link

Greinke's pinch-hit is the lead story right now on mlb.com. Not complaining, just find it funny.

clemenza, Monday, 1 November 2021 16:36 (two years ago) link

His career stats are pretty comparable to Martin Maldonado (per 162 games):

Greinke - .225/.262/.336, 6 HR, 60 OPS+
Maldonado - .212/.290/.348, 15 HR, 73 OPS+

clemenza, Monday, 1 November 2021 16:42 (two years ago) link

The way these things work, Houston's favored for tonight, and would definitely be strong favourites for tomorrow night if they win, but Atlanta's a solid favourite to win the series. If you were a math whiz, I wonder if there's a way to cover your bets so that you're guaranteed to win money no matter what (or do the oddsmakers set it up so that that's not possible?).

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 November 2021 16:09 (two years ago) link

If they're doing their jobs right they do!
