(also think the name is fine)
(but not judging nickn for thinking its terrible either)

Good name for a song, a bit long for a band.

In that last one where she sings "ever, ever" at 2:50, I keep hearing "Rhiannon, Rhiannon". Has the right voice for it too!
― Lee626, Friday, 29 October 2021 13:47 (two years ago) link
Played all three clips, and I don't hate 'em, but the name gives me a "trying too hard emo band" vibe.

Yeah, it's does call to mind Black Tape for a Blue Girl or Casiotone for the Painfully Alone or something

And The Pains of the Pure At Heart, which is the one I couldn't think of earlier.

Just finished listening to the new King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, whose name I hate tremendously, but it's a really good album.
Yeah I've heard good things about this band as well but there is no way I'm ever listening to them with a name like that.

Too many gothic bands because I judge from their name whether they take themselves too seriously.

^ Same - I eventually started listening and liked Bitchen Bajas quite a bit. But since then, whenever shuffle shuffles up that name, I still intuitively hit skip.
― bendy, Monday, 7 March 2022 19:25 (two years ago) link
I still agree with this post:
Frippertronics / Alice etc is totes my wheelhouse but can't, won't, on principle, listen to a band that can't come up with a better name for themselves than Bitchin Bajas. Sorry. What if I choke to death on a cookie and this is the last thing they find on my turntable? Bitchin' Bajas sounds like the name of the house band at Cabo Wabo, and that has a lead singer whose signature hand gesture is not devil horns but "hang loose."
― henry s, Tuesday, 8 March 2022 12:46 (two years ago) link
Exactly. I went to show where they were the openers, and was fully primed to see a bunch of dudes with white dreads and those Mexican hoodies. I was sorely disappointed (and a bit bored by the end tbh).
I wonder how much market share they could have stolen from Floating Points without the ironic band name.
― enochroot, Tuesday, 8 March 2022 14:53 (two years ago) link
always gave me "creatively bankrupt post-AnCo chillwave bands whose names are just 80s ephemera" vibes, even though the name itself isnt a reference (afaik?). i do love them now though.
― nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Tuesday, 8 March 2022 15:07 (two years ago) link
If this were indeed the 80's I can see Downtown Julie Brown saying "wubba wubba wubba, we've got the latest from Bitchin' Bajas coning up right after Huey Lewis introduces us to his new drug...whoah man!"

Up until the release of U.F.O.F., I was under the impression that Big Thief were a punk or garage rock band.

Nah. Just something about their first two album covers just made me think they were on the noisier, punkier end of things.
