It's not exactly a stat, but I don't know what other thread it fits in. On the 75th anniversary list of the "75 best players of all time" the NBA announced, Dame Lillard was the youngest player to make the list. Hey-oo!

dwight is easily the most egregious snub, don’t really have an opinion about the 50s wites but the first guy I’d probably leave off is reggie miller

they just kept the top 50 from last time so it was really a 25 (26) list of new guys

reggie is v impt for 90s hoop history imo

reggie belongs on the list imo if he played in the current era his stats would be crazy. you could make not just the historical figure argument (which i think is important — you can’t tell a history of 90s nba without him, which is true of john starks too but reggie’s skill level rises to a certain level) but also that he was a player ahead of his time who predicted where the game would go

he was such an amazing heal too, another guy whos ruined his legacy

well dwight never really developed any actual skills and once him posting up stopped becoming even halfway useful he kinda became a zero on offense. he’s definitely one of the 75 best athletes in NBA history. probably one of the 75 best players too. but he was a beast for only like 5-6 years when he was at his athletic peak. once he left orlando he wasn’t the same, could still get lots of rebounds i guess

the one way I could see it making sense is a bunch of guys just not knowing how to compare the eras and just voting for basically all of them

maybe there was something on the ballot that made it easy to do that idk

"a death sentence for the concept of the sport being based around leagues in individual countries" and "something more existential to the nature of soccer" are not synonymous statements, and in this case the first one doesnt really make sense since it was an international competition anyway

furthermore the free pass was exactly the crux of the issue it was a powerplay by the top teams, rather than having to compete on a level playing field in the context of a unbiased league the top teams just wanted to own the competition, which very much does represent an existential threat to how the game is organized

whereas my model is just another layer on the already existing unbiased league system, it doesnt offer the top teams the power they want, they still have to go out there and win just like everyone else

which is not to say that soccers fans wouldnt hate it, im sure they would, but i dont care its a good idea, its for the good of the game and they have to do it

There was one point late in the game where the Pels were in rotation and Dray was wide open at the top of the key for a three. Dyson Daniels was supposed to rotate to Dray, but he didn’t even bother, just went to cover the next pass.
