i'm sure if we looked hard enough there's a quote from him saying the same about the Dodgers!

i do intend to watch that classic comedy linked upthread but i just realized i'm inadvertently celebrating morbs by watching what i understand was one of his favorite films, cure by kiyoshi kurosawa

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Friday, 22 October 2021 18:32 (two years ago) link

last month i watched a film that i feel certain morbs would've loved, or at least admired. maybe he watched it at some point but i don't know for sure, and it's just a huge bummer that i can't talk to him about it now.

also surm i hope you're ok <3

donna rouge, Friday, 22 October 2021 18:47 (two years ago) link

Hugs to you, surm!

xyzzzz__, glad you dug the film.

Donna Rouge, what was the film?

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 22 October 2021 22:57 (two years ago) link

KJB: ‘la commune (paris 1871)’ (peter watkins)

donna rouge, Friday, 22 October 2021 23:57 (two years ago) link

La Commune (Paris 1871) was strange, I couldn't really comprehend a lot of it, but it was very interesting

only way morbs would ever root for the phillies or braves is against the yankees (he did so with the phils in 2009). don't think he'd quite worked up a similar hatred for the nats or marlins.

my sense is that he would very much have disliked his options amongst this year's final four, but might have leaned dodgers had their winning last year and then signing bauer not poisoned the well

just as well he didn't live to see jake arrieta's devolution, i suppose : /

best to you surmie <3

I am reading John Lurie’s memoirs and keep thinking about how the New York he writes about is what I think of when I think about Morbs’ New York, all that punk/outsider/weirdo goodness that he kept close to his heart. I miss the old grump.

he rooted for the braves against the (reigning champs) STL in 2012 - though i don't think he hated the dodgers nearly as much as the cards. fun to go back through the old playoff threads

he had so many overlapping hatreds <3

Missed that, but of course was thinking of him anyway and came across a few old emails from him the other day.

I think of him every time I have pancakes. I bring my own REAL maple syrup to the diner and pour 3x my former amount, no fucks given.

Oh, is this the day? Thanks for reminding. Will try to observe appropriately.

I am definitely ready to douse some pancakes in excessive amounts of maple syrup.

Turns out I am having a pancake breakfast with my kid on Sunday so that seems appropriate.

I was on the road early this morning, and when I finally could stop for breakfast, I had syrup and pancakes without realizing what day it was.The Spirit was with me, I guess.

didn't have pancakes today but am about to watch a film that he gave 5 stars to on letterboxd (that list is here: https://letterboxd.com/wjweber/films/diary/rated/5/)

Miss u Morbz

Reminds me that one of these days I need to get around to watching that Paul Lynde Halloween special.

As with so many things Morbs and I disagree (pancakes lol? Gross.), hence why I miss him terribly.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 22 October 2022 18:06 (one year ago) link

No comment. Except that I am in a greenhouse full of cacti right now so…

had pancakes, with fruit not syrup

(while cooking, thought about it sucking that Morbz would send unsolicited abuse to posters off-borad)
