I'll check it out for sure.

I absolutely LOVED the Bedwetter album he did in 2017 but none of his other stuff has grabbed me in the same way.

this is my aoty fwiw, I guess it'll remind anyone of the 90s/00s beat-driven psychedelia of their youth so it reminds me of The Beta Band and Working For A Nuclear Free City

True it really nails that kind of woozy indie/electronica sound from the tail end of the nineties, every track here kind-of sounds like it could be on an episode of Blue Jam. I feel like it's a sound worth revisiting though

really enjoying this, i had no idea, hadn't really kept up on him since he came out doing that skewed take on southern rap

def hear the beta band, though it's interesting i could see how he could get here and maybe not even know about the beta band, could just be natural evolution of a soundcloud rap producer who got into indie rock

Wow this is nice, and also sounds like prime '00s pitchfork bait, who would have thought

my friend is convinced this he's deliberately ripping off/paying tribute to sugar ray etc. on this album (???)

Seems like a good weirdo. Particularly like the last bit, very true:

TM: Honestly, I think the computer is too vast and too capable. You can do anything you want with it. I think people starting out with an interest in experimental music should choose a more minimal arrangement. I'm not talking about minimal in a Steve Reich aesthetic that's meant to limit or reduce movement or sound sparse, but more as a method to encourage desperation and ingenuity.

Get a woodblock, a delay pedal, and a Casio and try to make something that sounds like a Motown Sound record. Get one acoustic guitar and try to make it sound like 2 guitars, a drummer, and a horn section. For me, early experimentation often came in the undesired terms of having to make do with whatever mish-mash of instruments I had. All while trying to accomplish something well beyond the parameters of what seemed conceivable to do with them. I think that's the space in which things become interesting, and you stumble into the type of clarity that you otherwise wouldn't achieve just clicking around on settings and presets. Abundance of any kind has always stifled productivity.
