dissensus people should visit our ilx thread i think. it is fun and easy to sign up. plus, we get paid for posting over here

someone on the dissensus thread mentioned that it's cool that our archive goes back to 2001. i totally agree - i didn't start posting here til 2005/6, and then was offered a full-time position around 2009. what's incredible is that some of the same people that wrote those things in 2001 are still posting there, and that their opinions and the ways they interact have changed over time. having old posts dug up is a little embarrassing but it's also par for the course, not that big of a deal

how is this not a really old thread

everyone says "ILX needs more posters. some of those younger ones, maybe that have new musical opinions."

i say no. we need older ones. people in their 40s, with experience and wisdom. a Dissensus acquisition could make us 5% older by FY22

Isnt the dissensus vs ilx thing as old as the lifespan of the former?

brimstead, Wednesday, 20 October 2021 21:17 (two years ago) link

I joined in 2009 but am still in the mailroom. Sometimes I try to get noticed by higher ups but most of the time I give up and slack off.

I was listening to an LRB podcast (not a humblebrag) with Ow3n H and Ju1iet J the other day and Ow3n made a passing reference to the old blogging days and how it was split down lines between 'those who posted on Dissensus and those who posted on I Love Music'. He followed up with 'I was one of the few who posted on both'. Quality bants.

(Not meant as shade, btw - love Ow3n and Ju1iet. Just made me smile.)

they posted me getting zinged while being objectively correct, which pretty much sums up dissensus to me ... rhetorical force disguising unearned authority

TBF, that's all music criticism is. Ex post facto. By nature the critic is always behind the uncritical consumer - that's an Adornite paradox for you to wrestle with, right there.
