What's with the crazy listing Peter? Oh, it's your Oneida evidence. We have a lot of similar faves though man! Sonic Youth, Dylan, Can, Wire etc. Oneida, i have Secret Wars, which I totally enjoy. Always meant to grab EOTO...

one year passes...
oneida - what are they really?
immitators of bands like "boredoms" or making new interpetation of their own?!

flawless, Tuesday, 21 February 2006 13:37 (eighteen years ago) link

they really are awesome

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 13:48 (eighteen years ago) link

They are a rock band. They are like, an american krautrock band. Think of them that way maybe.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:16 (eighteen years ago) link

I've seen them 9 times. The last time was probably the best.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:17 (eighteen years ago) link

i've seen them a lot too,but they tent to repeat themselvs as a band.
ok,krautrock is about repetition, but for a certain extent only.

froyd, Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:21 (eighteen years ago) link

They've cut records with 2 minute organ driven songs, 20 minutie 1 chord droneathons, cock-rock jams, baroque orchestral pop...I think they've quietly been amassing one of the more eclectic and interesting catalos of recent bands.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:25 (eighteen years ago) link

You're right, Dan. And I hope Oneida's still making records when I'm 60.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:31 (eighteen years ago) link

the "oneida" records are great, i was talking anly about the live act.

froyd, Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:33 (eighteen years ago) link

at first, i was wary...
then, i was awe-struck...
then, i moved onto entralled...
which went onto enveloped...
gave way to 'i can't wait to see these guys again/hear they're next joint'...
and they ARE nice fellas, too!!!
i enjoys me some mighty Oneida.

eedd, Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:46 (eighteen years ago) link

never heard their Battiato cover, tho their Ulmer cover kills. YSI?

Beta (abeta), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:49 (eighteen years ago) link

hmmm... the only track i can say i really really really like is sheets of easter, simply because it's incredible they can keep it up.

Vintage Latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:54 (eighteen years ago) link

i can gmail/ysi the battiato cover tomorrow, beta. but you should buy the tribute comp - its great, and youd be supporting ilxor marco d.

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:58 (eighteen years ago) link

the new ondedia is done...being mastered now...you lovers will soon have more to deal with. probably an album and a bunch of other releases. they dumped a LOT of material in the last few months.

bb (bbrz), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 15:52 (eighteen years ago) link

eed, Tuesday, 21 February 2006 15:58 (eighteen years ago) link

I still want to hear the unreleased (and, sadly, unused) soundtrack to the film Speedo.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 16:07 (eighteen years ago) link

i heard a new split with liars and a new one with exmodels - was that on their site?

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 17:07 (eighteen years ago) link

A friend of mine said the wedding had sold poorly yet the others had all sold well in his shop.
It's a damn shame if that was the case elsewhere.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 17:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Great band, nice dudes. Hope there's more stuff out soon.

cdwill (cdwill), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 17:38 (eighteen years ago) link

aaaaahhhh, yes, Speedo sndtrk...
i wonder if that's already been popped in the Wedding and whatnot?

man, Wedding was one of the best things about last year!!!

eedd, Tuesday, 21 February 2006 21:39 (eighteen years ago) link

i wonder if they gonna give us the Thank You quadruple album now. oh lord have mercy

rizzx (Rizz), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 21:42 (eighteen years ago) link

They won't, rizzx. It'll be a single album, Happy New Year.

willem -- (willem), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 09:15 (eighteen years ago) link

but:
"it turns out that we’re not going to release a triple album on July 4th called Thank You Parents. We’ve decided against it for sanity’s sake. We’ll be releasing a single album called “Happy New Year”

!

rizzx (Rizz), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 10:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Awwww.
Maybe we can persuade hurlothrumbos mind here on this very thread!

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 10:55 (eighteen years ago) link

that's what i said, rizzx. but yeah: ! and a :-) and a hurray

willem -- (willem), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:52 (eighteen years ago) link

"never heard their Battiato cover, tho their Ulmer cover kills. YSI?"

I can send you a copy of the album, if you're interested. There are a couple still lying around my house.

Marco Damiani (Marco D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:42 (eighteen years ago) link

it's great! ;-)

willem -- (willem), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 15:40 (eighteen years ago) link

well, we've been pretty pleased with it.
it was really funny to have all these guys singing in italian language - some of them did an amazing job!

Marco Damiani (Marco D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 15:50 (eighteen years ago) link

Marco! Can i take one?

rizzx (Rizz), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 15:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Marco, i'd love to hear it. i believe i was asking "Za" questions once on the Battiato thread about it...

Beta (abeta), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 16:05 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm going to send you an e-mail at your address!

Marco Damiani (Marco D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 16:12 (eighteen years ago) link

hey marco! (its pete)

i gotta say, the wedding never clicked with me. this is after EOTO and secret wars and all the surrounding EP's and splits and comp tracks were some of my favorite stuff of all time. its not that i think the wedding's direction isnt fruitful, but it feels tentative in places.

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 16:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't believe Zu is on that comp! So cool. I just started listening to Zu and they keep coming up seemingly everywhere. The whole Battiato comp looks good; I need to get that. Though I think I've only heard one or two actual Battiato tunes evah. xp

The Wedding wasn't my favorite either. I truly loved Secret Wars and still anticipate everything they do. Has anyone explored the Brah Records catalog?

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 16:29 (eighteen years ago) link

I've just listened to the samples at the Brah website and liked what I heard. Rock, you know? The Prehistoric Maze split 12" is awesome, of course.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 16:44 (eighteen years ago) link

(ciao pete!)

Zu are really one of the best Italian bands ever. Great people too: check also their side project Ardecore (traditionals sung in Roman dialect, its a must!).

Marco Damiani (Marco D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 16:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Andy, if you're interested just drop me your address!

search and destroy them for me please.thank you.what is essentail?

the stocky, Wednesday, 24 May 2006 22:54 (seventeen years ago) link

no 'seek+destroy' the Oneida!
i needs them!!!

eedd, Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Oneida fans - what was the song they did at ATP that is one clipped chord as a drone with "lieslieslieslieslieslieslies" etc over the top - about 7 minutes long? I have a pile of the back catalogue coming in the mail and would appreciate being pointed to it rather than wade through everything when it's the track I want to listen to first.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 1 June 2006 11:12 (seventeen years ago) link

that was 'sheets of easter' off the each one teach one album, discussed above - go find it!

the secret show in london in 2003 that lauren mentions above was a careless talk night, and was amazing. 2 songs, 'sheets of easter' and a cover of husker du's 'new day rising', for about an hour. GOD HEAD.

i am not a nugget (stevie), Thursday, 1 June 2006 12:03 (seventeen years ago) link

You've got to look into the LIGHT.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Thursday, 1 June 2006 12:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I have 'each one teach one' in the post, YAY ME.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 1 June 2006 12:20 (seventeen years ago) link

one year passes...

Alright someone please clarify:

Does the vinyl version of Each One Teach One have a locked groove, or is my copy just fucked? I can't find any info online and it's bugging me.

Reatards Unite, Monday, 3 September 2007 01:20 (sixteen years ago) link

hahahaha

Tracer Hand, Monday, 3 September 2007 01:36 (sixteen years ago) link

are you sure that's not just how it's supposed to go?

Tracer Hand, Monday, 3 September 2007 01:36 (sixteen years ago) link

I left it on for like 20 minutes and it was still playing

Reatards Unite, Monday, 3 September 2007 01:48 (sixteen years ago) link

thats how its supposed to go!

stevie, Monday, 3 September 2007 08:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Sheets of Easter goes on for 14 minutes...Antibiotics for 16 1/2. That, my good friend, is not fucked vinyl. It is Heaven.

brightscreamer, Monday, 3 September 2007 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Does the needle move? If yes, it's not a locked groove. I saw them play Sheets, right when it came out. I think they were in a "locked groove".

dan selzer, Monday, 3 September 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

we put them on in london shortly after it came out on CD, and they played two (2) songs - Sheets of Easter, and then an epic 30 minute cover of 'new day rising'. it was GODLIKE.
