I guess if a shitehole with a big and very ordinary looking church like Wakefield can have city status then anywhere can. A 300k+ population is quite big tbf but only if Southend don't cheat the figures like Wakefield does by counting chunks of Dewsbury and towns such as Pontefract and Castleford from within the WMDC boundaries towards the population count.

So as soon as I could, I upped sticks for the bright lights of Wakefield, all of three miles away. The night before I left, I went for a farewell drink in the Red Lion on Dewsbury Road.
