He's dead! I think. Someone is, anyway.

People with Halloween names tweeting about this is a bit of a strange thing to read

be careful next time you call a scumbag MP a twat or a darned scoundrel... these words can have dire consequences much graver than the social murder policies they vote for in parliament

This is the Brasseye 'cake' guy isn't it? He's dead. Which is not good tbh.

Hopefully this won't lead to tit-for-tat assassinations by factions loyal to the ruling regime, wouldn't want the country to descend into violence now.

Tories on Twitter have already started blaming Angela Rayner for saying "Tory scum" - hope to god the killer turns out to be an antivax crank or sth.

Pretty disgusting to score points on this one, but it's part of the reason we are here

Tory councillor saying Amess offered help to everyone "regardless of religion or culture", which sounds ominous. Most likely scenario by far is the attacker was mentally ill.

Starmer: "Let the children boogie, let all the children boogie." (Tom D.), Friday, 15 October 2021 17:26 (two years ago) link

the attacker is probably too young to have been driven over the edge by a toryland boundary despite so that leaves mentally ill/extremely fascist or the very remote high odds chance that he's a Labour voter who was radicalised by the violent revolutionary rhetoric of Angela Rayner

calzino, Friday, 15 October 2021 18:06 (two years ago) link

I was wondering earlier why Laura Kuenssberg was spending more time talking about the language used in political debate these days rather than someone getting stabbed to death.

Starmer: "Let the children boogie, let all the children boogie." (Tom D.), Friday, 15 October 2021 18:17 (two years ago) link

all that sacrosanct "an attack on an elected official attack on democracy" bollocks is so disproportionate to how the media respond to murderous state policies with 100k+ death tolls, it makes me want to vomit. The old singular deaths of the ruling classes are tragedies, mass culls of the population are statistics thing that nobody should accept. The only attacks on democracy I see recently are from the two main parties so far.

Today is a good day to thank an MP for their service. Whether or not you agree with their politics.

— Brendan Cox (@MrBrendanCox) October 15, 2021

this creep is always quick in on an opportunity to grandstand at times like this. With the hope everyone forgets his murky history. Why the fuck should you thank some corrupt lying piece of shit who consistently votes to make you poorer and erode your civil rights, and that applies to most of the Labour MPs.

calzino, Friday, 15 October 2021 22:14 (two years ago) link

Talking of sex pests, John Woodcock, sorry, Baron Walney, trying his best to connect this to the intemperate use of language in political debate (yes, we know what you're referring to, cunt) despite it having absolutely fuck all to do with particular case.

Mark G, Saturday, 16 October 2021 19:23 (two years ago) link

John McD went a bit further than her in a 2012 speech where he encouraged "direct action" against Tory/coalition MPs. But I think he meant that in the sense of robustly challenging them for their austerity agenda not slicing them up like a Tory ham. No doubt that one will get dug out as well as proof that impolite discourse costs lives. Don't mention UK foreign policy 2001-2011, because that is nothing to do with this one at all.

This was Jacob Rees-Mogg's Tweet:

David Amess was a holy man who strove for good. May the angels lead him into paradise; may the martyrs receive him at his arrival and lead him to the holy city Jerusalem. May choirs of angels receive him and may he have eternal rest.

Apparently Boris has just agreed that The Queen is going to give Southend, City status in tribute to Sir David Amess.

(whereas Jo Cox's tribute was Boris getting Brexit done)

it's pretty wild that politicians are saying a murderer who is being detained under the terrorism act is a symptom of online anonymity. lol even the odious rape suspect Mark Francois is talking about "toxic online misogyny". They've lost their minds.

This does seem to be being treated differently than Jo Cox's murder - more overt "political point scoring", I think? Like, the implication that Angela Rayner calling the Tories scum leads to events like this is just weird.

put your hands up for southend

《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:30 (two years ago) link

I guess if a shitehole with a big and very ordinary looking church like Wakefield can have city status then anywhere can. A 300k+ population is quite big tbf but only if Southend don't cheat the figures like Wakefield does by counting chunks of Dewsbury and towns such as Pontefract and Castleford from within the WMDC boundaries towards the population count.

calzino, Monday, 18 October 2021 18:55 (two years ago) link

So as soon as I could, I upped sticks for the bright lights of Wakefield, all of three miles away. The night before I left, I went for a farewell drink in the Red Lion on Dewsbury Road. An old bloke at the bar warned me of “those Wakefield folk with their Wakefield ways”, then he gripped my arm and said, “never forget where you’re from, lad. You’re from Ossett, remember that.”
