phone number: 39074 which had a 5 added to it in the late 80's early 90's. There was also a rotary padlock on the phone so luckily we never had a house fire while home alone.

I have to really wrack my brain to remember even the names of the last several streets I lived on but I can still remember every complete address from every house we lived in from like age 6 through age 12 (we moved a lot so there were several).
This thread reminded me of the local time + temperature number I used to call all the time as a kid (I couldn't quite remember the entire number but I was close). Lo and behold the thing still exists 30+ years later. For the seniors who still use phones to do things, I assume.

― koogs, Tuesday, 12 October 2021 18:05 (two years ago) link
No, it’s not still on the road. Separate gov.uk tool shows its tax ran out in 1985.
― Alba, Tuesday, 12 October 2021 18:09 (two years ago) link
don't heritage cars not need tax?
> Vehicles exempt from vehicle tax> If your vehicle was built before 1 January 1981, you can stop paying vehicle tax from 1 April 2021.
anything over 40 years doesn't need taxing. or rather it does need taxing but you don't need to pay for it. so that's not the case here (and wouldn't've been for a 68 car in 85) so it's dead. and died so young!
― koogs, Tuesday, 12 October 2021 18:24 (two years ago) link
I looked up the only family car whose plate I could remember, an Escort registered in 1977, and it shows as untaxed from even earlier in ‘85, so your Minx didn’t do too badly. Thinking about it, ours was nicked so I guess that’s where it met its end.
