glad you like! i went on a tear through the thread after i posted those and bought a bunch of stuff you and others posted. weirdly my favorite tracks are a little more indie-goth flavored (the anthony naples remix of working men's club and the nite fields track). also liking what cardopusher is doing.

i think that makes sense, the indie-goth flavors probably mix more easily with the house and disco sounds you're liking

i like to use chuggy psychedelic stuff to bridge this kind of thing with disco, e.g. zillas on acid, radial gaze, anatolian weapons

yes that makes sense, dark disco / chug is closely related to both and a nice bridge.

I've definitely tried to embrace a certain level of unironic cheesiness in my sets, if a track is ridiculous and makes me laugh for some obscure reason, I'm 100% playing that shit no matter how serious the techno headz want to be

anyway. the world could do with more music that's funny and silly outright. serious heads for anything "underground" are scarce 'round these parts, anyway, so i got nothing to lose

I had a set of >200 dark/scary songs locked + loaded for my gig last weekend, but the party people only got stoked on my set when I changed course completely, starting over with cute Taylor's request for Doja Cat. and yeah ok, the new collab w/ SZA is good fun, but man if i can't even get people to rally for Ministry or New Order on a Halloween weekend then where the hell can i play it? i know about half the people who were there, thought they were more adventurous.

I'm always amazed by what gets classed as campy/cheesy. When I was a teenager in Glasgow in the early 00s, trance and hard house was big with the tough, hyper-masculine lads, but whenever I play that stuff I can hear the sound of bottles of poppers being opened.

trance heads have a tendency to take themselves overly seriously for some reason

i think the trick for converting people that are already cool with vaguely gothic electronic music is to not go too techno too fast, start with boy harsher, kontravoid, etc. soon enough they will learn to love the brutal snare+kick and forget silly melodies
