I crave steamed rice rolls on a regular basis but alas they're not entirely gluten-free and use part rice but also part wheat flour.

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Saturday, 2 October 2021 15:24 (two years ago) link

Oh shit I watched a video about these rice rolls a few months ago!! Which filling should I get???

Warmed Regards, (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 2 October 2021 16:28 (two years ago) link

Shrimp for sure and maybe the non-bbq pork? Iirc there are a few additives and you can customize for whatever you want--scallions, corn?, can't remember what else.

Ive never tried the curry fish balls with peanut sauce but they look intriguing.

Wow, Flushing is amazing.

Hmm I may need to make a flushing trip soon. It's been a while, and one of the things I found really cool about it was how dynamic it was -- changes all the time, new restaurants/vendors all the time.

Just made a trip to Flushing- to shop at Macy’s! - as part of pandemic dig out.

But really came to post that Brazilian music seems to be blowing up a bit at Terraza. It always had some presence but now more high level players are coming more often and there is going to be a monthly jam session which promises to bring in a lot of good music as well.

I went to the queens center mall this week. What a beautiful place

ncxkd, Sunday, 17 October 2021 21:28 (two years ago) link

One of the most profitable malls in American, surprisingly. Or not.

dan selzer, Sunday, 17 October 2021 21:34 (two years ago) link

Beautiful? Have they spruced it up in recent years?

Double Chocula (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 17 October 2021 21:34 (two years ago) link

I was taking photos for my gram project (@mallselects)

ncxkd, Sunday, 17 October 2021 21:46 (two years ago) link

great stuff, let me know if you ever want to print anything in queens too, I'm getting into the large format archival inkjet game, and a few stops away from the mall.

Where do people like to eat near MoMI these days?

Double Chocula (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 23 October 2021 20:48 (two years ago) link

We don’t eat at arepas cafe much anymore because arepas grill is less crowded and has parking but that’s solid. Astoria seafood down the st is supposed to be amazing.

dan selzer, Saturday, 23 October 2021 23:55 (two years ago) link

Thanks! Might try that. What do you think of the Thai restaurant I keep passing, Maple Thai Eatery?

Double Chocula (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 24 October 2021 00:01 (two years ago) link

Elmhurst or Woodside Thai or die. If you’re driving go over there.

dan selzer, Sunday, 24 October 2021 00:08 (two years ago) link

Like Felix, I kept on walking, so I tried Ma’Ple after all. It’s fine and quite spicy, if a bit generic.

Tacuba across the street from MoMI is very solid imo and good place for atmosphere and drinks as well

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Sunday, 24 October 2021 02:14 (two years ago) link

Yeah, that place is great, go there as often as I can.

Double Chocula (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 24 October 2021 02:30 (two years ago) link

Astoria Seafood is fuckin' great. there was a greek place around there i used to love but that was fifteen years ago and it's likely gone now.

When Young Sheldon began to rap (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 24 October 2021 15:15 (two years ago) link

The method at Astoria Seafood sounds mad! How do you pick something out and then tell them how to cook it?? What have you ordered there? Tell me all.

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Sunday, 24 October 2021 15:19 (two years ago) link

you can just say "as the chef likes" and take your chances

The amount of chaos and uncertainty is very concerning. I feel anxious just thinking about it. What are the sides like?

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Sunday, 24 October 2021 15:21 (two years ago) link

Oh okay it's Greek, sorry, I just needed to read up on it.

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Sunday, 24 October 2021 15:22 (two years ago) link

two months pass...

I had a whole crazy thing where I put money in the tip jar but then the "waiter" chased me down afterwards anyway, speaking of chaos. The owner than asked me what was going on and seemed to be annoyed at the guy.

Came to post that I like this place, even though I don't buy too many physical books anymore. Come to think if it, I remember the night of the event pictured, somehow I ended up the afterparty if not the event itself.

walked by Casa Del Chef as it was opening and mentioned it on chow.com when that was something I'd still look at. I've still never been but everybody loves it. Now in danger of closing.

Orsolya Gaal murderer in custody. She lived in my old neighborhood and down the block from our friends - I didn't know her personally but had seen her post in neighborhood fb groups and remembered her name when I saw the news. RIP and peace to the family.
