I can see how it could happen, but from now on I will ask for confirmation that the items are in stock before I process a payment. If that means the seller has to locate them, so what? They will need to to ship them anyway.

micarl, Thursday, 30 September 2021 21:42 (two years ago) link

And if you're a seller and the buyer has purchased but not processed payment I don't see the big deal in confirming items are in stock and you will get them shipped as soon as payment clears.

micarl, Thursday, 30 September 2021 21:49 (two years ago) link

Agreed, it’s not a big deal to do so. I’ve sent dude a reminder as such. Thanks for the feedback!

I agree with you, but the temptation to pay it then and there is strong.

Why does 90% of my wantlist always consist of listings from Europe? I can’t figure out if Americans don’t sell their records or if I’m just looking for albums that were released by European labels or something.

zacata, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 13:10 (two years ago) link

Sometimes I just accidentally add the UK or European version to my wantlist, but sometimes it'll be the US edition and still when I click on the link it's like:

16 For Sale from $24.99

Well, that almost seems like a reasonable price!

$24.99
+$40.00 shipping
$64.99 total

Ships From:Peru

peace, man, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 13:29 (two years ago) link

I think certain UK sellers just relist their entire stock more often. the first two pages of my wantlist are always the same 2-3 shops over and over again. definitely wish there were an easier way to filter around this

frogbs, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 13:40 (two years ago) link

You have 17 new items in your wantlist

Same overpriced stuff every day from the same sellers.

war mice (hardcore dilettante), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 13:52 (two years ago) link

I've been dying for a filter that only shows me US listings of things in my wantlist. It's such a slog to scroll through, as frogbs said, the same damn relistings every single day in the "98 new albums for sale in your wantlist" emails, and they are also international so they're not only part of the furniture in the emails but wouldn't have been a consideration either way. And yeah I've wondered similar things as zacata... why is discogs more of an international marketplace overall? Most items for sale seem to be dominated by sellers outside US regardless of whether they're relisted or not.

Evan, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 13:54 (two years ago) link

You can filter by USD which at least gets you like halfway there

one thing that really annoys me is all the stuff listed at unserious prices, since these are the albums that are always clogging up the wantlist. you know the ones, where the lowest/median/highest is like $15/20/25 and then every available copy is $55+. I wish you could just filter out anything that's like 10% above the highest price.

frogbs, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 14:13 (two years ago) link

Yeah from their perspective it makes sense for them to, whether manually or with algorithms that adjust pricing competitively constantly, price things opportunistically if it seems an album might be on track to become rarer than the demand, but agreed like you I'm not interested in being the buyer that puts it on that track. To that same point I sometimes wonder about the person who bought something for +$20 more than what it sold for like a month or less prior. These people either do not fret over being a sucker and overpaying or they needed [album] BAD and they need it NOW.

Just got my first negative feedback from a buyer who was having problems with PayPal. I have received the payment, seemingly immediately, and was none the wiser there had been an issue. The negative feedback was left five minutes after the order was placed.

hamicle, Friday, 19 November 2021 12:28 (two years ago) link

Did a purchase yesterday, I think my first since all the changes to automate shipping costs. I paid right away but the seller still has to review things and say it's looking fine, I guess (take the status from payment pending to payment received). Fine by me as I'm familiar with the site... but I could see how people would be confused by "pending" after they just paypal'd funds that the site should be aware of.

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 19 November 2021 13:08 (two years ago) link

The negative feedback referenced an issue with a catchpa, which is very much out of my control, and seems to have successfully completed a number of other sales on Discogs. Just a bit frustrating.

hamicle, Friday, 19 November 2021 13:22 (two years ago) link

You can definitely get that removed

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 19 November 2021 13:23 (two years ago) link

In the meantime, you can always post a reply to the feedback, which everyone will be able to see.

mike t-diva, Friday, 19 November 2021 13:54 (two years ago) link

Hi, have written the reply and will request removal, though have first asked the buyer to remove it.

I can accept negative feedback for something that was in my control, tbf this just looks like someone was pissed off and that appeared the route to complain!

hamicle, Friday, 19 November 2021 14:33 (two years ago) link

did they ask to speak to your manager?

Evan, Friday, 19 November 2021 17:05 (two years ago) link

did they threaten to get you fired?

Mark G, Friday, 19 November 2021 20:42 (two years ago) link

Disappointingly, neither.

hamicle, Friday, 19 November 2021 21:09 (two years ago) link

Oh is there a way to block certain sellers from results in my Wantlist?
I get certain Japanese sellers (I think) who re-list or minutely adjust the price frequently, and their listings are absurdly priced. It's pretty annoying!

Communist Hockey Goblin (sleeve), Saturday, 20 November 2021 04:07 (two years ago) link

One that drives me nuts is the second volume of the Deutsche Elektronische Musik compilation CD, which is on my wishlist. Inexplicably, volumes 1, 2, and 4 are priced normally, but I guess this one went out of print and wasn't reissued because of a rights issue (or so I was told). So I have a notification set on eBay as well as on Discogs, and I've seen people asking as much as $400 for this thing. Like, I want it, but I'm getting so tired of seeing it in my email inbox every single day that I wanna just remove it from my wantlist altogether. This is just one example, of course there are others, but this one in particular drives me up the wall

Paul Ponzi, Saturday, 20 November 2021 13:53 (two years ago) link

Yeah I'd like mine to only show me US sellers... never want anything bad enough to pay $20+ shipping so I don't care to see any of those listings.

Evan, Saturday, 20 November 2021 14:44 (two years ago) link

Can you set a filter so you’re only notified if it’s below a certain price (?)

apparent beef squash (morrisp), Saturday, 20 November 2021 15:04 (two years ago) link

I don't believe so but that would be awesome

I don't use it but I'm given to understand that the Discogs Enhancer plugin for Chrome does all of that (block items by seller, filter by country, filter by price etc.)

relisting items every day should be punishable by death

Communist Hockey Goblin (sleeve), Saturday, 20 November 2021 17:50 (two years ago) link

One good trick is to just create a second account with a focused want list of the stuff that you really care about

I did this and every day I get an email about the same item that this seller lists every day. Though they did recently drop the price so it’s only 50% above the max price, lol

I’m nicer than sleeve so I wouldn’t necessarily have him killed but i wouldn’t mind a nice flogging

idk given shipping costs its been helpful for me to put a bunch of things on there that I'm not actively seeking but would buy if I came across it at a record store...like if I can get a $4 copy of Falco's Emotional as a toss in with something I really do want, that's pretty nice

frogbs, Saturday, 20 November 2021 22:23 (two years ago) link

I occasionally sell on Discogs, but only as an in-between for a close friend who is older and not on-line. For instance, my buddy will wind up with a reggae record that is worth $500 and I will sell it for him on discogs. How long should I wait before giving him his money? What is the deadline for registering a complaint on the buyer’s side?

Cow_Art, Saturday, 20 November 2021 22:33 (two years ago) link

I don’t spend money I get from selling till at least I know the person has received it. So long as you grade fairly and play test you might be able to give it sooner.

micarl, Sunday, 21 November 2021 05:54 (two years ago) link

The one Discogs feature I'd really love is to be able to filter by sleeve condition as well as media condition, even if it's just to take out all the 'no cover' results.

Filthy jewel cases have become a pet peeve on my discogs CD purchases. I used to pay little mind, but lately whenever I handle a purchase, it's left me with the fingers of a coal miner. At least they can be washed or replaced, but it's given me more incentive to buy certain titles "new" when possible.

birdistheword, Friday, 3 December 2021 13:41 (two years ago) link

one month passes...

A buyer is asking me to send to facilitate a "drop ship."

Not a high value item or overseas but frankly I'm peeved that a seller would place an order, pay for it and then request it be sent to their customer. At the very least they should have asked first. Supposedly a replacement for one that was lost (in the post?). I don't think for one moment they set out to "drop ship" but that's what it is.

Frankly I'm peeved that they would do this without asking first (and if they had I would not have agreed to it.) Now I have the options of shipping to someone who is not my customer at an address not on the order or payment and where a previous one presumably didn't arrive, or cancelling and refunding. But if I do the latter do I refund minus the Paypal fee? And if I do I risk a Paypal dispute for the remainder? This is why I'm annoyed at being put in this position, I would never dream of dropping this on a seller.

feed me with your clicks (Noel Emits), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 11:20 (two years ago) link

Kind of repeating myself there. You get the picture, I am peeved!

feed me with your clicks (Noel Emits), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 11:23 (two years ago) link

If you refund, you get the paypal fee back.

It happens, you won't get a dispute I'm fairly sure.

Mark G, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 11:25 (two years ago) link

Having said that, I've shipped to "other" addresses often - one time I sent it to a neighbouring country as the customer's country only allowed 2 packages per year from external countries. Was a bit "hmm" but it all went fine, guy was very pleased.

Mark G, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 11:27 (two years ago) link

There is definitely no getting paypal fees back, not for a couple of years now. To keep that 45p I'd need to do a partial refund and they could if they wanted dispute that. The truoble with disputes now is that they count towards a percentage figure after which all disputes attract a large fee.

I just had someone email me querying the postage to Australia, for a CD I'm selling for £1.49. The whole thing with having to faff about filling in all the postage costs for different countries/weights etc means they know the fucking postage for the CD already, it literally says it next to the price. They also asked if I could sent the CD without the case. This would save them a massive £1 off the shipping because it would be under 100g. I guess I'd either have to have them pay full price then refund the £1, or adjust the weight and hope nobody else buys it before they do. For a £1.49 CD. Or they can just fuck off (yes that is the option I'm taking)

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 11:32 (two years ago) link

FWIW you can change the shipping charge on an order if they don't pay immediately.

I had a very similar query recently, although maybe they though the shipping price was too low because I have Economy as the default for Australia.

feed me with your clicks (Noel Emits), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 11:41 (two years ago) link

Re the drop shipping, I've had a very regular and totally trustworthy buyer over the years (dempster13) who always requests shipping to various third parties; to facilitate this, they actually change their PayPal delivery address to the third party in question. I guess my call on this one would be to review this buyer's feedback, both as buyer and seller?

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 13:07 (two years ago) link

I just had someone email me querying the postage to Australia, for a CD I'm selling for £1.49.

I recently started using the minimum order value option in settings to avoid getting in to small orders which waste time.

got fucked on postage to China today. I had it set up so up to 500g was in a separate category because usually that's 4 CDs and that will fit in a large letter. someone bought 5 CDs and one was in a digipak and it came to 475g. didn't fit in a large letter and I was out £4 on the postage :( I've changed it so CDs can only go up to 400g now which should hopefully fix that

Not Discogs related in particular but I'd like to see figures on the value of late 90s onwards 12" dance vinyl. Lots of 00s stuff has been down to £1 / $1 or less for a long time but it seems more and more of it is basically destined for landfill at this point. When the only people who would really want it are DJs, and of the few holdouts still playing vinyl even fewer will be interested in various unfashionable styles and eras, and when so much was chucked out there week to week by labels, it's not hard to see some of the reasons why.

feed me with your clicks (Noel Emits), Friday, 28 January 2022 17:28 (two years ago) link

that's an interesting take- in my experience, many late 90s-early-00s dance 12"s undergone reappraisal and risen in price, sometime quite high. lots of formerly worthless, not especially obscure or limited records have gone from $1 to $30 in the last five to ten years- just check some 00s uk tech house releases like this: https://www.discogs.com/release/110969-The-Mingers-Emancipation-Revisited

or check the comments on this one: "i used to give away copies" etc
