Reeves appears to be evil AND hopeless. Good promotion!

she seems to be the current holder of that fake "most feared by the Tories" title awarded by snivelling journos, previous holders include Yvette Cooper, Dave Miliband, Dan Jarvis, Hilary Benn

Good summary

The interest in making Reeves happen will increase after Kieth's speech. I think it's twice I've put R4 on in the last few days and Nick Robinson is having a very cordial chat with her.

lol I'd take a punch from a priest over a wooden blackboard duster getting thrown square at my head by a nun. But being the very virtuous person I am - I wouldn't use it as an excuse to employ bigoted stereotypes to undermine and attack the only left wing candidate in the last leadership election. His credibility is so shot he just needs to be quiet and perhaps reflect on how he can be so wrong 99.9% of the time.

A “next-generation neighbourhood watch” using technology including video doorbells and WhatsApp groups would be tasked with bringing people together to share information to tackle crime.

Absolutely baffled by Mason's latest tweets about this.

Just bizarre and incoherent in every way.

I assume that he has still never admitted that he was simply wrong to support KS.

It would be the simplest and best thing to do.

the pinefox, Monday, 27 September 2021 23:40 (two years ago) link

I might be remembering this wrongly, but I think and am almost sure there was a a point somewhere in the 2015/16 UK political commentariat landscape when Mason was almost a lone pro-Corbyn voice and OJ was *reluctantly* agreeing with the Labour Right that Corbyn should stand down!

― calzino, Tuesday, September 28, 2021

Calzino correct here. One of the reasons I liked Mason a lot was the way he stood up for these values, at that time. And he has other qualities too, as a thinker with lots of interests. It's also true that OJ gave up on JC in 2016.

I don't even find it that odd that PM backed KS in 1.2020. What I find a bit more odd is that he's never said that this was simply a mistake. He's trashed his own reputation unnecessarily.

Mobs that burn vans, smash shops fronts are no better than police that bash reporters or suppress evidence. We need accountability & ability to critique police, but we all need conflict res, peacekeeping/making in our communities & that’s what gov should be allowing police to do.

8/ The deal I thought we had with Starmer is broken. He is retreating from key pledges - nationalising energy, redistributive income taxes - and facilitating attacks on democracy. There are now no left figures in the Shadow Cabinet... worse...

Nick Robinson earlier:

"Isn’t the true story of this conference, Diane Abbott, your faction lost two general elections, you then lost the leadership of the Labour Party. Keir Starmer has decided to roll that back — successfully — and, as they once said in Dad’s Army, “You don’t like it up you?”

nashwan, Tuesday, 28 September 2021 12:03 (two years ago) link

Leaving aside how that might be variously offensive, it's inane, as it means something like:

"Faction 1 doesn't like being attacked by Faction 2".

No. It probably doesn't.

But this is to underestimate the direness of NR and everything else that is submerged in what he is saying.
