Read Greed earlier this year, some terrific bits amongst a real mud of a translation, making me wish she would translate some of her own work into English. Piano Teacher is on my shelf, so maybe I'll start on that.

Piano Teacher is fantastic so far and its definitely not stilted or awkward (which is I guess the prob with that translation?) but not being able to speak German I can't uh really comment on the quality of it, but it's a pleasure to read and the prose is beautiful.

I can't really comment, either - but I guess its a judgment on the erratic flow of the prose.

six years pass...

Read a few novels and only Piano Teacher is something I want to return to. Then again the film is so good.

This does look amazing, a couple of her plays available in English with recordings of perfs too!

Honegger just finished her translation of Jelinek’s opus magnum, the 666 page novel “The Children of the Dead,” to be published by Yale University Press. She is a Guggenheim and Fulbright/IFK Fellow.

I found out about this after looking at a review of a film of this book which was presented at the Berlin film fest.
