Everyone on the Saints looked stronger and faster than everyone on the Packers, it was wild

frogbs, Monday, 13 September 2021 00:15 (two years ago) link

Matt Nagy just went for it on 4th-and-15 down 13 while in FG range with 11 minutes on the clock

probably the right call but that's definitely something you would never have seen half a decade ago. I would've called something that actually got the ball past the line though

frogbs, Monday, 13 September 2021 02:42 (two years ago) link

I don't see why the Bears are starting with Dalton. I think this is pretty much all you're gonna get with him. They liked Fields enough to trade up for him and this defense doesn't look like it's gonna stop anybody right now

frogbs, Monday, 13 September 2021 03:11 (two years ago) link

I think it's good to keep going like they are. I'm in no hurry to see the kid carted off the field.

holy fuck Raiders

frogbs, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 03:42 (two years ago) link

WHAT THE HELL

frogbs, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 03:47 (two years ago) link

for those of you not watching the Raiders just threw what looked like a game winning TD in overtime - players were already shaking hands at midfield - but it turned out to be like 18 inches short. they run it to the 3 inch line or whatever on 1st down, then commit a false start (LOL) then on 3rd down it slips through a receivers hands and doinks off someone's helmet and now the Ravens are going for the win

frogbs, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 03:52 (two years ago) link

oh Ravens just fumbled. oh well, I'm sure nothing incredibly weird will happen now

frogbs, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 03:53 (two years ago) link

what happened

you had me at "giallo" (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 14 September 2021 21:40 (two years ago) link

dunno if I've ever seen a QB throw a pick in that game situation before

frogbs, Friday, 17 September 2021 03:27 (two years ago) link

didn't expect this kinda old school 80s NFC East barnburner but i'll take it

you had me at "giallo" (Neanderthal), Friday, 17 September 2021 03:28 (two years ago) link

Giants really fucked that though, they needed a first down and not only was that route short of it, fucker dropped it anyway.

gave Washington the equivalent of 2 timeouts to get a field goal.

you had me at "giallo" (Neanderthal), Friday, 17 September 2021 03:29 (two years ago) link

my mom is a Giants fan and is screaming at the Giants right now.

it's ridiculous how they have kept shooting themselves in the foot tonight. that was ballgame there.

you had me at "giallo" (Neanderthal), Friday, 17 September 2021 03:41 (two years ago) link

fucking hell these NFC East teams really know how to lose in the most excruciating fashion

frogbs, Friday, 17 September 2021 03:42 (two years ago) link

Washington sure af shouldn't act cocky after this one though, they played like shit defensively and benefitted from playing a much stupider team

you had me at "giallo" (Neanderthal), Friday, 17 September 2021 03:43 (two years ago) link

in retrospect dropping a wide open touchdown wound up costing the Giants big time

frogbs, Friday, 17 September 2021 03:43 (two years ago) link

yep. even Daniel Jones had a "what the fuck, man" look on his face after that

you had me at "giallo" (Neanderthal), Friday, 17 September 2021 03:47 (two years ago) link

receiver should retire IMO

two extremely goofy NFL games in a row

symsymsym, Friday, 17 September 2021 05:28 (two years ago) link

one of my favorite things about the NFL is how frequently bizarre shit like that happens. its the natural outgrowth of a high-variance sport with dozens of nebulously defined rules. every week these guys come out and risk career-ending injury and it's all for naught because a guy jumped a tenth of a second early. i love it

frogbs, Friday, 17 September 2021 13:26 (two years ago) link

otm its a great/terrible sport

johnny crunch, Friday, 17 September 2021 16:23 (two years ago) link

The amount of hype the last 9 months about the Giants, especially Daniel Jones and Joe Judge, has been nauseating.

Taliban! (PBKR), Friday, 17 September 2021 16:42 (two years ago) link

i thought both jones and heineike were p solid last night, looked like competent starting qbs

johnny crunch, Friday, 17 September 2021 17:21 (two years ago) link

amazing

Okay, so

*Texans pick up 13 yards on 3rd and 15
*Browns called for offsides
*Texans can choose between 4th and 2 or 3rd and 10
*They choose 4th and 2
*They then punt the ball away

The Kevin Stefanski reaction is amazing pic.twitter.com/HMpY4ErhX4

Ok, Chicago you got your start for Fields and he got sacked 9 times. I'm sure you are ready to run him out of town now.

Garrett was in the backfield so fast on some plays you was thinking the Bears were running a power sweep with him.

earlnash, Monday, 27 September 2021 05:39 (two years ago) link

I don't see why the Bears are starting with Dalton. I think this is pretty much all you're gonna get with him. They liked Fields enough to trade up for him and this defense doesn't look like it's gonna stop anybody right now

hmmm so this take didn't hold up well

really cool to see Rodgers win it with 37 seconds and no timeouts but the game never should've come to that, some of the most lopsided reffing I've ever seen in a SNF game (sorry)

frogbs, Monday, 27 September 2021 13:46 (two years ago) link

that noncall on the illegal hit to the helmet on Adams was a travesty

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 27 September 2021 14:02 (two years ago) link

they also missed a really blatant intentional grounding before the end of the half, gave them a late hit on 3rd-and-10 even though Jimmy G released the ball like a tenth of a second before getting hit and the defender tried to let up anyway, and I thought LaFleur's challenge should've been successful given the ground clearly aided the catch. all 3 of those calls led to 49ers TDs. then the Adams non-call right after which was a big "why do I still watch this dumb sport" moment

frogbs, Monday, 27 September 2021 14:14 (two years ago) link

Chicago will never learn that you can be a contender in the NFL with a good offensive line. My whole history as a Bears fan has been watching quarterbacks running for their lives, grappling with injuries, and ending up with Jay Cutler face. Fans whine about being unlucky with QBs, but plenty of decent QBs have rolled through and gone through this same pattern. They ruin quarterbacks there.

The refereeing in the game last night was awful, almost game ruining for me. There were also some plays in that Bears Browns game that went in the favor of the Bears that had me going "Whaaatt?" That game probably should have been a shutout.

beard papa, Monday, 27 September 2021 16:32 (two years ago) link

lmao the ref ltierally went over to McCarthy to ask him if he seriously wasn't going to use a timeout there

frogbs, Tuesday, 28 September 2021 01:50 (two years ago) link

Finally saw the clip of Justin Tucker's 66 yarder...what a bomb. That record might stick for a bit, Tom Dempsey's 63 yard kick hung around till 2013.

Bears got a problem in that the McCaskey's run the club like a family owned car wash.

earlnash, Tuesday, 28 September 2021 23:25 (two years ago) link

Watched most of the second half of the Bengals and Jags. Pretty entertaining game and you never know in about ten years, it might be known as the first time Burrell and Lawrence met in the pros. Both of them looked really good, Lawrence can really run quite well for his size.

Watching the post-game interviews they both came off as good corporate CEOs of 'the product' well groomed in mike speak.

Local news stations around here do a pretty good job covering local high school football and it always cracks me up when they put the mike in front of these players often times you get these kids doing their version of the ESPN mike speak. And really, they are better groomed than yo would think.

Burrell and Lawrence both in their interviews are the next step beyond of that corpspeak...sounding near like tech CEOs in how their new software launched. All Lawrence needed was a turtleneck...defending how their work had been good but it had not yet come together.

earlnash, Friday, 1 October 2021 14:09 (two years ago) link

I like Lawrence because he's got a good quarterback face...he's got some odd features and kind of looks like a caricature but is also fairly handsome. almost reminds me of Joe Namath.
that's how QBs should look. and why I've always liked Manning more than Brady

frogbs, Friday, 1 October 2021 14:17 (two years ago) link

ā€• mookieproof, Wednesday, February 2, 2022 2:47 PM (eight minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

well yeah, you kinda answered your own question there. if a team is deliberately trying to lose it's not just a rogue decision from the coach, and if several people know then in the gambler's mind that means HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE KNEW and deliberately FUCKED YOU OVER, which is just bad PR for sports betting all around

frogbs, Wednesday, 2 February 2022 20:57 (two years ago) link

The fun thing about this is that itā€™s coming right as a No. 1 overall pick took a 2-14 team to the Super Bowl in 2 years so you could easily argue the Browns were actually right to do what they did

frogbs, Wednesday, 2 February 2022 21:01 (two years ago) link

i gotta say it is weird that nashville got to the superbowl in their first year actually in the city, teeing up years of .500 futility and a lot of early exits in the playoffs and somehow also a rabid tennessee fanbase that wasn't that into the game until they came thiiiiiiiiis close to a championship
probably just a coincidence

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 3 February 2022 01:57 (two years ago) link

Posnanski has an article up about this and he mentions something I had totally forgotten about - when Hue Jackson got fired, he was notably pissed about it, which drew a lot of mockery because he only won 3 of his 40 games...but looking back it makes total sense, cuz the implicit agreement must've been that they were gonna actually start trying in Year 3

also makes the point that Hue was probably not literally paid $100k per loss, but rather that there was some clauses in his contract that rewarded him for doing dumb shit like starting Kizer every game

frogbs, Thursday, 3 February 2022 18:34 (two years ago) link

due to the nature of football as a sport the NFL hasn't had a major tanking problem but if they really want to eradicate the incentive to tank they're going to need to implement a lottery and some of the stuff the NBA has instituted. in the year that flores was allegedly offered money to tank, the dolphins would have been able to draft joe burrow had they actually tanked. burrow will end up being worth billions of dollars to the bengals if he plays a full career, and i think any dolphins fans would say it would've been worth all the losses, flores suing the team, the owner being thrown out of the league etc to have him. of course flores would probably still have his job if they had tanked for burrow. the browns main problem was not paying their coach to tank but tanking in a year where no elite QB was available (the year they took myles garrett) and then tanking for baker mayfield
