would've been easier to just go with "what the hell is going on with your pants"

I expect that was the highest quality response Steve Jobs ever gave to someone who tried to insult his representation of Java's level of integration into the concept of Open Doc during a public Q&A.

it is to laugh, like so, ha! (Aimless), Wednesday, 8 September 2021 19:21 (two years ago) link

So I guess everyone else is pretty nonplussed by the event today? I think I'm still gonna stick with my 11Pro.

DJI, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 18:55 (two years ago) link

I am waiting for ilxor Jeff’s assessment before making any big decisions

mh, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 20:34 (two years ago) link

so did they end up not adding a temperature sensor to the watch, or did it just not make it through federal approval yet? I want it to alert me if I might have a virus

mh, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 20:41 (two years ago) link

iPad mini looks perfect for me, except the mini 5 is perfectly fine and so I don’t need it. It’s so hard to care about the rest of the incremental grind on show

stet, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 20:44 (two years ago) link

I'm probably going to trade in my Xs for a 13Pro, but enh... no big hurry at the moment

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 20:52 (two years ago) link

Yeah... also XS owner here, if the trade-in is good enough I'd be tempted to bite on a 13 vanilla or mini

Nhex, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 21:49 (two years ago) link

I’m only interested in camera sensor size. So the question for me is whether there is again a difference between the pros.

calstars, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 22:36 (two years ago) link

Guess they’re the same. and the regular models get last years pro max sensor, nice.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 14 September 2021 23:17 (two years ago) link

i am disappointed TouchID isn't back in the phones yet though

Nhex, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 13:00 (two years ago) link

one month passes...

actually excited for this one...

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:00 (two years ago) link

coming out strong with, er, "voice plan"

stet, Monday, 18 October 2021 17:06 (two years ago) link

they always start with the worst stuff but good grief

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:07 (two years ago) link

mac pros or gtfo (i will not buy a mac pro)

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:07 (two years ago) link

they cannot resist keeping old products around these days, it's segmentation all the way down with this crew

stet, Monday, 18 October 2021 17:15 (two years ago) link

32gb booooooo!

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:18 (two years ago) link

lol pro

stet, Monday, 18 October 2021 17:19 (two years ago) link

m1 pro meh. m1 max is more like it.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:21 (two years ago) link

Why Max over Pro?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:24 (two years ago) link

it's more

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:25 (two years ago) link

what else i'm looking for: wait and see but pro sounds like it might only support two (maaaaybe 4?) thunderbolt ports again. max will certainly support 4 (maybe 8).

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:26 (two years ago) link

show the bloody computer already

stet, Monday, 18 October 2021 17:27 (two years ago) link

I don't even know what a thunderbolt port is so maybe I'm more of a pro guy -- or are you saying people need 64gb ram? (I am at 16 on my current mbp)

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link

they have been very careful throughout to mention notebooks only. no mention of macs or mac pros. will be surprised if there's not an imac pro though.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link

HDMI

stet, Monday, 18 October 2021 17:31 (two years ago) link

thunderbolt is physically the same port as usb 3. the current m1 macs are limited by the chip (not laptop size) to two usb 3 ports. i personally don't care, but it's an ongoing complain. these new chips will hopefully raise that limit.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:31 (two years ago) link

MAGSAFE

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:31 (two years ago) link

stet, Monday, 18 October 2021 17:31 (two years ago) link

magsafe is back again awooooo

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:31 (two years ago) link

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:31 (two years ago) link

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:32 (two years ago) link

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:32 (two years ago) link

sd card and magsafe niiiiice

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:33 (two years ago) link

very good ports

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:34 (two years ago) link

only 3 usb c ports but the addition of magsafe makes that ok imo (and the usb c's still support power delivery)

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:35 (two years ago) link

very nice display

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:37 (two years ago) link

max is an option in 14 and 16" so we may not be getting macs today

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:42 (two years ago) link

oof $

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 18 October 2021 17:48 (two years ago) link

Fans too. And a camera notch FUCK OFF.

assert (MatthewK), Monday, 18 October 2021 19:29 (two years ago) link

I work closely enough with the data scientists at work that I might be able to swing requesting one of these bad boys

mh, Tuesday, 19 October 2021 14:10 (two years ago) link

If Apple can now recognise text in images..... can it index that metadata for Spotlight??

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 24 October 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link

Spotlight can’t even index my home folder

calstars, Sunday, 24 October 2021 17:33 (two years ago) link

the notch on the new pro book displays is hilarious

calstars, Sunday, 24 October 2021 17:34 (two years ago) link

I don’t see why the notch is a big deal to people, the middle part of the menu bar is dead space anyway.

papal hotwife (milo z), Sunday, 24 October 2021 17:48 (two years ago) link

I have never watched a movie on a laptop, though, because I’m not a disgusting savage.

papal hotwife (milo z), Sunday, 24 October 2021 17:49 (two years ago) link

Exactly 0 % of display real estate is extraneous

calstars, Sunday, 24 October 2021 18:10 (two years ago) link

Then you will like the notch because it means the bit below the menu bar is 16:10 and more pixels than without the notch.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Sunday, 24 October 2021 18:47 (two years ago) link

Basically you have the same screen space you had before, but you no longer lose a strip at the top to a menu bar.
