Pretty much the perfect match of performer to role. But I liked seeing him pop up in other stuff, too. Lovecraft Country was a pretty bad show — it seems a little worse every time I think about it, honestly — but he was really good in it.

I remember being in France and seeing all kinds of other, unknown Belmondo videos on the shelf in the store, including one with a picture of a pie in midair on the way to his gueule, his chapeau already lifting a tiny bit off his head in anticipation.
