i'm suddenly loving ebm type stuff. it looks like k has already posted something from this collection but i'm really loving this from it too, i love the vocal.
Juan MacLean - feat. Fantastic Twins She s Breaking Up

also finally dipping into some optimo trax stuff, it seems related but obviously that catalog is its own thing. this thing is fucking great on the dub tip:

this is like something from zero set meets surgeon with some trancy things going on, not what i expected from front 242

glad you like! i went on a tear through the thread after i posted those and bought a bunch of stuff you and others posted. weirdly my favorite tracks are a little more indie-goth flavored (the anthony naples remix of working men's club and the nite fields track). also liking what cardopusher is doing.
― Linda and Jodie Rocco (map), Thursday, 7 October 2021 22:34 (two years ago) link
i think that makes sense, the indie-goth flavors probably mix more easily with the house and disco sounds you're liking
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 7 October 2021 22:40 (two years ago) link
i like to use chuggy psychedelic stuff to bridge this kind of thing with disco, e.g. zillas on acid, radial gaze, anatolian weapons
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 7 October 2021 22:42 (two years ago) link
yes that makes sense, dark disco / chug is closely related to both and a nice bridge.
― Linda and Jodie Rocco (map), Thursday, 7 October 2021 22:49 (two years ago) link
some more tracks that bridge between disco and ebm.

jennifer cardini's label correspondant music is sort of a goldmine for this kind of stuff (she realizes very late in the day)
also thanks for the alessandro adriani tip, what a great sound
and here's where i say i'm completely enthralled by severed heads, who i've never listened to before, and i see they have quite a catalog, so i'm very much looking forward to diving in.

Can someone recommend some dj mixes of this stuff. (The new stuff, I mean)
― xheugy eddy (D-40), Thursday, 14 October 2021 01:27 (two years ago) link
brimstead, go right to Rotund for Success, probably the poppiest/most accessible moment, when Sev Heads skirted closest to new wave club music album.

right on, thank u
― brimstead, Thursday, 14 October 2021 03:34 (two years ago) link
and right before it, the 2-fer Come Visit the Big Bigot with Dead Eyes Open, slightly less poppy, probably my favorite Severed Heads release.

― donna rouge, Thursday, 4 November 2021 17:56 (two years ago) link
i do too. if i ever get regular DJ gigs again i might see how far i can push the crowd into Cheeseland
― davey, Thursday, 4 November 2021 20:41 (two years ago) link
I've definitely tried to embrace a certain level of unironic cheesiness in my sets, if a track is ridiculous and makes me laugh for some obscure reason, I'm 100% playing that shit no matter how serious the techno headz want to be
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Thursday, 4 November 2021 20:45 (two years ago) link
anyway. the world could do with more music that's funny and silly outright. serious heads for anything "underground" are scarce 'round these parts, anyway, so i got nothing to lose
― davey, Thursday, 4 November 2021 21:04 (two years ago) link
Amen
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Thursday, 4 November 2021 21:29 (two years ago) link
I had a set of >200 dark/scary songs locked + loaded for my gig last weekend, but the party people only got stoked on my set when I changed course completely, starting over with cute Taylor's request for Doja Cat. and yeah ok, the new collab w/ SZA is good fun, but man if i can't even get people to rally for Ministry or New Order on a Halloween weekend then where the hell can i play it? i know about half the people who were there, thought they were more adventurous.
anyway. my girl Jasmine put me on to this EP from 2018. good stuff.

I'm always amazed by what gets classed as campy/cheesy. When I was a teenager in Glasgow in the early 00s, trance and hard house was big with the tough, hyper-masculine lads, but whenever I play that stuff I can hear the sound of bottles of poppers being opened.
― boxedjoy, Friday, 5 November 2021 13:16 (two years ago) link
trance heads have a tendency to take themselves overly seriously for some reason

i think the trick for converting people that are already cool with vaguely gothic electronic music is to not go too techno too fast, start with boy harsher, kontravoid, etc. soon enough they will learn to love the brutal snare+kick and forget silly melodies― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 25 February 2020
Or smack the sad spectacle of the blubby white goth out of them and get them to listen to Waveform Transmission vol. 1 and anything resembling its pounding mutant metallic funk, like this banger from 2014. Been caning it for 6 years.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9u9esEKFtw
