The Olympics

fix up luke shawp (darraghmac), Monday, 9 August 2021 09:08 (two years ago) link

I feel like there should be a failure Olympics for lazy people who are too clumsy and unfit to be any good at athletics. And if they win any medals they publicly reject them and go on sweary drunken rants about how shit their country is!

What counts as a "song"

I remember these stuffy pedants in the theatre community who would SCREAM "original cast recording" whenever someone referred to a cast recording as a "soundtrack".

yes, they weren't wrong, but they were joyless fucks, and I kind of wanted to screw with them a few times and say 'IT'S NOT THE ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING, IT'S THE LONDON REVIVAL, YOU PEDANTIC SWIMMING POOL OF SHIT"

Duke Detain (Neanderthal), Friday, 3 September 2021 20:34 (two years ago) link

I feel like 'tracks' connotes recorded numbers, whereas a song can be sung around a campfire or on the stage

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 3 September 2021 20:52 (two years ago) link

Then what's a record

, Friday, 3 September 2021 20:58 (two years ago) link

tracks = mixing tools / techno loops / general fodder for a bigger set of music imo

It's probably been mentioned in this thread before, but my god: fantasy football

― Dan I., Wednesday, September 27, 2017

I've gone to two bars recently (after a year and a half of avoiding social spaces), and both times was buttonholed by twentysomethings droning on about cryptocurrency. I realized that when that happens I feel the same type of excrutiatingly intense boredom as when people discuss fantasy football. I can't muster even the slightest interest.

Sam Weller, Monday, 4 October 2021 12:29 (two years ago) link

fantasy football has a much lower carbon footprint, so would class as "dull" rather than "dull + evil"

I kind of envy the rotisserie league people’s knowledge of players across the league. With baseball I’m parochial - I’ve got my team, and I know their division rivals pretty well, and after that it starts getting hazy. But some fantasy people take it so far that the results of the games are basically meaningless for them. The narratives of actual teams and their fortunes fade into background noise. For me the teams are the whole point!

Tracer Hand, Monday, 4 October 2021 12:39 (two years ago) link

I'm always been asked to join the work's fantasy football league but I've spent years resisting getting sucked in to the maw of the English Premier League and that's not going to change now.

last time I was invited I carefully researched players who were being transferred out of the PL, and bought them before they were deleted from the available roster, managed to field a single team for the entire year and not get any points.

Well I have a strong interest in football, but listening to people explain who they started that week and how many points they earned? Meaningless.

The new Bond film. Who should play Bond in the next Bond film. Any Bond film. "The books though, are so much better than the films." Bond.

I like some Bond films but, apart from that, OTM.

I like Michael Bond
