general 2021 MLB discussion thread

MLB Network has been the greatest thing today, this trading deadline has been the best since i became a MLB fan.

I was feeling a (very) tiny bit of solace in seeing that we might have at least gotten Bart out of the SF deal, but apparently not? Terrible trade.

seems better to get something for the dudes now and then possibly re-sign them. i'll miss baez the most, he was my favorite. but also maybe this is the push i need to stop paying attention to the cubs and being mixed up with the ricketts.

also the white sox are looking pretty good so who cares

yeah the sox look great. annoying to see Baez go for a currently injured prospect to go.

i just have such little faith in the Ricketts opening the wallets for them again later. maybe i'll be pleasantly surprised. just harder to watch through the eyes of my 9 year-old, who literally cried when he heard the Rizzo news.

awe, that sucks for kids. when i first heard it was Bart i was thinking Zaidi lost it and made no sense. of course the Giants were not giving up Bart for a rental.

baez is a super-fun player but he also has a career 102 wRC+ and .303 OBP. a *lot* of his value depends on his defense. i'd be leery of signing him long-term.

it made sense for the cubs to trade those guys today; the real capitulation was when they dumped darvish.

i wonder if impending labor strife had any impact on all this? probably not much, because i don't think anyone knows what's going to happen

I'm glad Rickett's f'ed up the Cubs. They can lose for another 100 years while those a'holes own the club.

I grew up watching the Cubs on WGN back in the 80s, but the Ricketts are scum. They make the McCaskey's seem lovable by comparison.

I was going to put that game on the bar TVs, but our local cable co. had let its contract with the Fox affiliate expire and was running Newsmax on that channel. Fortunately the Little League World Series regionals were on.

I assumed it was over because pf the angels on MLB channel but whatever field of dreams is good
