With Blecch curtains

Just didn't want this A+ post from yesterday to slip by unremarked upon.

Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Friday, 23 July 2021 19:34 (two years ago) link

Fuck Clapton, but iirc he himself *did* get vaccinated and apparently had a particularly bad experience:

“I took the first jab of AZ and straight away had severe reactions which lasted ten days. I recovered eventually and was told it would be twelve weeks before the second one…,” Clapton wrote.

“About six weeks later I was offered and took the second AZ shot, but with a little more knowledge of the dangers. Needless to say the reactions were disastrous, my hands and feet were either frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks, I feared I would never play again, (I suffer with peripheral neuropathy and should never have gone near the needle.)

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 23 July 2021 20:09 (two years ago) link

Should never have gone near the needle indeed

I didn't doubt the negative reaction. A lot's already been reported on his physical health issues on recent years and how they've made it difficult for him to play. Before he announced his "last" tour (which, surprise, wasn't his last), he said he feared he'd never be able to play again due to those issues. It's just incredibly douchy and shitty when he uses that as a rationale to trash vaccines AND everything known about the pandemic altogether.

I mean he coulda also got COVID and died

A way to reframe Kim’s tweet in a form that makes sense (at least in a US context) is to ask whether full FDA approval, when it comes, will move the needle (no pun intended) in terms of persuading a certain segment of the vaccine-hesitant population to get the shots.

The timeframe for this has been a big topic of discussion, though, not something no one is discussing (per her follow-up tweet) – so maybe I’m putting the wrong words in her mouth.

Charles Hayward (drummer of This Is Not This Heat):

So sad to see Charles Hayward join the Covid Cranks. The conspiricist mindset has been there for a while, but one of my favourite musicians seems to be going the full Icke.
Tragic.

Nena ('99 Luftballons') has been at it again. Having previously supported the German anti-lockdown, coronavirus-skeptic 'Querdenker' movement and endorsed music by conspiracy theorist Xavier Naidoo, she encouraged her fans at a concert in Berlin yesterday to ignore the Covid-19 regulations and come closer to the stage. Nena then challenged the organisers to switch off the electricity, but instead they just cancelled her encore.

A small update

I have removed the post where I name a certain drummer who has shifted over to the dark side, and considers the vaccination programme to be an extension of Nazi experimentation. I have done this because he has taken down the particularly offensive "Nuremburg" post -

Perhaps realising that holding such views could be more detrimental to your career than a pandemic.
In the process I have lost several friends.😐
When friends start saying things that sound exactly like the stuff coming out of Trafalgar Square yesterday, they should be called out

he's a genuinely strange dude on the order of Prince so it wouldn't surprise me if he was some kind of Covid truther. everything he's said on the subject has been super vague, stuff like "everything you've been told is a lie" and "the truth is out there". which I think has been a theme of a bunch of his stuff, as it always seems deeply wrapped in sci-fi and conspiracy shit - he's done stuff about the moon landing being faked and an entire album about alchemy, afaik he doesn't necessarily believe any of this but he's deeply fascinated with it. I mean he does sell Covid masks on his website...

Dunno if this guy feuding with Jason Isbell is a full Covidiot, but he sure has some Covidiot bad takes here:

“The unclean may not attend. The poor may not attend. The ignorant may not attend.” Who knew Jason was so bourgois? Thought he was a blue collar type of guy. Never met him so I can’t say for sure but yeah, this is some elitist ish here, fella. https://t.co/dJvP5bVDA7

Some back and forth, landing on this:

All your shows free Marc, or do you sell tickets? Man fuck back off to the bar with this shit. I hope they turn the TVs off for you while you play. https://t.co/Hw9u6vCRlh

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 August 2021 17:01 (two years ago) link

I don’t know who Broussard is (and I barely know Isbell), but that’s a pretty fierce tweet… Isbell doesn’t sound like a guy you want to f with.

Shallot Shortage 2021 (morrisp), Friday, 6 August 2021 17:10 (two years ago) link

Iirc Broussard's one of those old man hat Americana guys. His biggest Spotify tracks are almost all vintage Soul covers.

“Heroin” (ft. Bobby Gillespie) (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 6 August 2021 17:31 (two years ago) link

Broussard is a full idiot. His argument was ‘wut about workin men who can’t afford the risks of taking the vaccine.’

Which is a bad hill to die on because

You took a personal shot at another musician, casting him as "bourgois" and "elite", in contrast to you and your "working class fans." Anyway, enjoy your gig at the $350/night Spa you're playing tomorrow night ($95 a ticket!) Don't forget to take your complementary bathrobe!

Imagine that spa probably has some serious C-19 protocols in place too.

“Heroin” (ft. Bobby Gillespie) (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 6 August 2021 18:09 (two years ago) link

Smart move of Broussard to pick a culture war battle with a bigger name, he can sing Sam Cooke covers for anti-vaxxers for a long time to come.

Joe Bombin (milo z), Friday, 6 August 2021 19:00 (two years ago) link

This is also a hot take

I know I have some working class fans who can’t afford the risks associated with either the vaccines or even getting a test. An adverse side effect or a positive result could mean loss of wages which could be devastating for someone who’s finances are already tight.
