basking in the heat and mildly amused by the locals' despair.

tbf it goes from 20 degrees to 30 degrees overnight and lasts for 5 days. Try getting used to that each year.

the thing is, when I lived in the South (GA), the *indoor* summer temperature was around 18, which makes a pretty huge difference

The UK doesn’t feel much less humid than Arkansas in practice. Real lung weather sometimes, especially at night.

Going by extended experiences in Montreal and Bucharest, the current UK heat wave (in Oxford, at least) is lightweight-tier in terms of how it *feels*. Imo it's just nice out.

But, to reiterate, in terms of what it means for the planet, it's a total disaster.

But things feel different depending on the standard climate one is used to! I do chuckle when I see Phoenicians in 50F/10C bundled up like arctic explorers, but I don't doubt that they truly do feel cold. Because they've just been thru 6 months of over 100F/40C.

Yeah long term forecast is that DC will have a “normal” or slightly below normal summer, but that’s still higher than past historical standards. We just won’t be in there “Top 10 hottest summers” like we have been stuck on every year for a decade.

Our neighbors are an empty lot to the east, an insurance office to the north, a school building empty in the summer to the west and an empty house to the south. I should let our roofer know he's welcome to set up lights and work at night if he wants.

just took thermometer outside it's 35.1°c. The closest I've ever got to the equator is Northern France so it feels absolutely infernal to me. Come back rain, I never once called you miserable and pissy.

Macs typically don't run the fun until they get really hot, but I'm not comfortably with a tiny block of aluminium running at 70c. smfFanControl lets you manually set the minimum fan speed.

My phone is telling me it peaked at 92 in my NJ town today and the next week and a half will be 95, 97, 99, 97, 98, 98, 88 (bliss!), 91, 89.

xp Texas, so there's air conditioning everywhere (until the power grid fails!) but we still get several dozen to 100+ deaths every summer because landlords are monsters/air conditioning is too expensive to replace/our social safety net is an early death.

we're around 105 for a while, low humidity though. slc utah. monsoon moisture has been blessing us sporadically over the past two weeks. we're right at the northern tip of its reach so it isn't much. even though the colorado plateau has had a few better than average monsoon years, the colorado river system is basically collapsing from drought.
