I tend not to follow sport unless I can watch it live though I read reports.
Lol @ Oosthuizen fucking it up again.
Looked like a lovely afternoon of Golf.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 18 July 2021 17:41 (two years ago) link
Yes, I'd have loved to have spent a lazy Sunday afternoon/ evening watching it but I assume it's on Sky now. Anyway, it's finished, Morikawa won and I didn't see a second of it!
― Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 18 July 2021 17:43 (two years ago) link
Yeah 20 or so years watching The Open :-(
Was almost as sad as when summer Test Cricket left terrestrial in 2005 (though radio can be adequate for cricket I've never got into it).
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 18 July 2021 17:58 (two years ago) link
lol watched north of 30 hours of it this week. spieth looking great again, rahm bad day with the putter. morikawa was sublime ,fantastic iron player.
― oscar bravo, Sunday, 18 July 2021 17:58 (two years ago) link
the gap btwn his strokes gained approach and the number 2 is wider than btwn the number 2 and number 30.
been highlights on bbc every day btw
― oscar bravo, Sunday, 18 July 2021 18:01 (two years ago) link
Don't like watching highlights of golf for some reason.
― Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 18 July 2021 18:02 (two years ago) link
Highlights for most sport is kinda wack though I'll try and catch it. For me its a nice way to look back on an event you already watched.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 18 July 2021 18:12 (two years ago) link
Any particular reason you cant watch it
Are ye protesting by not pirating it or something lads

is it true that golf is on the radio in the uk
― mookieproof, Sunday, 18 July 2021 22:16 (two years ago) link
Yes! Since the Ryder Cup disappeared from free-to-air TV (late '90s?) it's been the only way to experience several editions live. Though I did watch the climax of 2002 in a pub.
― Michael Jones, Sunday, 18 July 2021 22:29 (two years ago) link
not a huge golf fan but certain things that i've happened to watch are unforgettable
today i was reminded that jean van de velde's incredible collapse at carnoustie was 22 years ago ffs

God, yes, makes my toes curl just thinking about it.

jeongeun lee6 just played one of the greatest rounds i've ever seen. admittedly no wind but 61 at a major championship is remarkable. leads the evian by 7 shots with the morning wave finished round 2. conditions perfect so perhaps someone can eat into her lead.

i don't see the upside to joining the saudi-backed league, but then, i'm not raking in the blood money
― in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Friday, 3 June 2022 20:24 (one year ago) link
thats the only upside. and for guys that have fallen out of the top spot contention week to week they can rake it in pretty easily i would think.

they got bryson and reed now too...
― Spottie, Wednesday, 8 June 2022 19:32 (one year ago) link
talor gooch and if he's healthy bryson are the only players who looked likely to win on the PGA tour in the next 12 months who the liv have signed up. maybe Kevin Na or Hudson Swofford in a start of the wraparound season weaker field event. DJ has been crap for the last year with the exception of the Ryder Cup. the liv format looks boring and the fields weak. but hey the money is astronomical. all these turds would have merrily played in apartheid era south Africa for sure.

Did you see the clip of Lee Westwood being asked that exact question by a reporter today? Re South Africa

seems like they’re cleaning up the most venal and detestable figures on tour, cool
― in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 8 June 2022 21:42 (one year ago) link
but also figures that bring any semblance of tension to the tour..
― Spottie, Wednesday, 8 June 2022 21:52 (one year ago) link
not sure what the end game is here but it could lead to a strange place, could also improve the pga tour who knows

Having read very entertaining histories of the ABA and the WHA, I'm interested in where this goes.

i tuned into the back nine yesterday just in time to see Rory have one of the worst meltdowns you'll ever see:

Disgraceful that you can't relax on a Sunday and watch the last round of the Open anymore on your telly. What a world.

killa cam, what a round
― in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Sunday, 17 July 2022 17:55 (one year ago) link
unreal final rounds from both cams. that up and down on 17 was god tier. cam young could have legit finished birdie-birdie-eagle. hov was out of position all day and rory 2 putted every green
― oscar bravo, Sunday, 17 July 2022 18:08 (one year ago) link
kinda feel rory is trying to lean into the tiger way of winning majors too much, conservative golf let the others make mistakes etc but the fields are deeper and noone is ever gonna have the same debilitating effect that tiger had on other players games. like today it looked like rory did too much missing in the right place vs attacking. then again a couple of putts drop and I'm probably praising him for his control so whatever.enjoyed yesterday's play more until cam smith hit the back 9 Sunday.
― oscar bravo, Sunday, 17 July 2022 19:01 (one year ago) link
kinda weird seeing so many guys go double-digits under par at a major
― mookieproof, Sunday, 17 July 2022 20:46 (one year ago) link
my favourite week of the year, alliss's voice in my head "down magnolia lane each april come the best in the game"
guess one of the 'big 3' scottie/rory/rahm are odds on to win this. sheffler is a low key killer scrambler and legit one of the best iron players from the rough i've ever seen. last year at the masters he one putted half the greens which is amazing. feels boring to predict that one of those 3 will win so i'll go for either finau or cam young.
would also like to see a resurgent jason day in the mix.
anyone except a LIV-er acceptable.
― oscar bravo, Thursday, 6 April 2023 09:36 (one year ago) link
rahm 4 putted the first for double bogey and still shot 65. had it on a string.

the greed of sports orgs shouldnt depress me anymore but this totally does. as someone who spends many hours a week watching golf this really really pisses me off. wouldnt ever watch liv wouldnt ever want to. throws players who supported the pga/dp world under the bus when some of them turned down 100s of millions of dollars and reintegrates a bunch of shitheads happy to take money from people who murder journalists. fuck off moynahan.
